Noobie question.

I wish to take my portable harddisk alongwith me to my cousin's place. I am going by plane to bangalore. So I had a question:

Will carrying the portable hdd in a suitcase cause any problems 'cause the hard disk is full of game iso's and movies and if they detect the hdd will I be asked to remove it out of the baggage and get it checked?

Also am planning to come back by train will the constant rattling cause any damage to the harddisk?

I know the question is very nooby but still....
 
^^just put it inbetween your clothes in the suitcase ....it will be fine

when the hard drive doesnt have power, the head is automatically grounded so no real chance of damage
 
I carried an old laptop once at the bottom of my handbag and was stopped by Bombay airport security. He asked me why I was carrying it that way instead of seperately. I told him it was worth nothing(in fact he only asked me this and I said yes). In fact when I looked at his screen, the laptop looked like bomb :P . I would've been suspicious too. But these fellows are trained and see these things everyday.

I carried a walkman (in a metal dabba for protection) and was stopped by Bombay security again. The guy asked me to open the container and show me what was there.

Most likely, they will just ask you to show them the item and that's it. It depends on how your item looks at the screen and how you look too :bleh: .
 
Well my portable is a small 80 gb laptop harddisk with casing. I can carry it in my pocket, really. But if it rains (between airport and home/destination) it will be ruined?

I wouldn't like to unpack out there and then repack to show them it is a mere harddisk. So what should I do?
 
put it in ur bag and forget about it.... i carried my entire desktop with me once when i was going for a long official trip..... :rofl:.....

packed my PSU, Mobo, ODD, HDD, Proccy fixed to mobo mouse and keyboard in my suitcase....clothes in a diff bag.... managed to get a LCD arranged in the location.... :rofl:...most people call me crazy for doin these things.....

I carried 2 Sata HDDs 4 months ago to Bangalore by plane. It was in my backpack. I wasnt even asked to open and show it.

For safety I had put it the static bag and the plastic casing.

Dont worry just be casual when asked abt it if asked at all.

Such things happen at the airport almost everyday. They wont check the contents unless you are acting suspiciously.
