Hi , i m trying for Norton Ghost Cloning which wud be independent of Target Systems Hardware ... ( HAL and Storage Controller driver ) irrespective of the Source Cloned Image ...

As we know Images of computers running Microsoft Windows cannot simply be restored to different hardware as Windows will typically fail at boot time with a STOP: 0x0000007B if the proper Microsoft Hardware Abstraction Layer Hardware_Abstraction_Layer (HAL) and/or storage drivers are not installed in the at boot time .

Acronis allows for the same via their Acronis Universal Restore addin to True Image Echo Enterprise product by injecting the Required HAL and Storage Controller Drivers while Cloning Target PC ,s

So, is this same possible by Ghost ... via any scripts or just anything ... or by any BartPE plugin .... ??????

Secondly ... any possible conversions from GHO ( Ghost Imaging Format ) to TIB ( Acronis Imaging Format ) and VMDK to TIB

Thanks ... :)

This can be achieved via scripting, development time and much research on your part. Too involved to provide a soluiton here.

Another option to achieve hardware independent imaging is to use a product called Universal Imaging Utility, which works alongside your cloning application to create a single image, including all drivers, the right HAL, etc.

Try it at uiu4you.com.

u have imaging partition or image in your hand? If u are having partition, u are in better shape/ position.

Note: Both ways mentioned below need u have access to bootable system i want image of.
If you want to learn a bit more in depth, check out working with sysprep (command to reset hardware profile of windows xp, not aware of other windows versions).

There is other way to make system ready for different hardware also. And a lot simpler one, which i use.

Just reinstall drivers for HDD controllers to Standard dual channel controller from your motherboard/ chipset specific one. And you are good to go (almost universal windows image which on restored can boot on any hardware configuration, unless that hardware requires installing sata controller explicitly and cant work with windows inbuilt drivers) :D

Shall add few points more about your other que.... but tomorrow when i get time. ATM its too late.

@ harpy ... i m aware of Sysprep and that Std dual channel procedure ... but here , i am also concerned to procedure in which we switch from Sata Operational from IDE to AHCI or RAID , irrespective of I/O controller mfc and model , and ... also when new HAL needs to be switched due to altered H/W config of targetted systems ... and i wanna achieve it via Symantec Ghost ... UIU i think wud solve it all ... as i m reading its docs and downloading FTW ... wud report back later

Acronis Universal Restore does the job very well without any hasses. Why go after Norton Ghost then unless u wanna go scripting...

Just create a Acrnis bootable CD with Universal Restore and u are all set for any backup or restore tasks. :)

due to the reason we are.nt migrating our entire image database from GHS-GHO-VMDK to TIB .... :hap5:
