i have dell studio 1537 (15 MV) Vista premium installed .. now i need to install Windows XP.. but first i ave to format the C: drive whic his not happening... i have tried HIREN BOOT CD 9.3 but afettr using it .. still not able to format... i have tried to use Windows XP cd but the blue screen comes in middle of installatiom.. what 2 do?? how to format the C: drive?

i m guessing the blue screen in middle of installation is of is due to lack of sata drivers in win xp.

try out slipstreaming sata drivers into win xp. you will need the sata drivers for your laptop plus nlite

Simply change the mode of HDD in BIOS settings from AHCI to IDE and format the C drive using any bootable XP disk. It should work just fine. Once XP is installed u can update the drivers and stuff and revert the HDD setting back to AHCI or whatever it is.

FYI I have Dell Studio 1555 and the day I got it, I wiped off its HDD clean and installed OS of my own choice, Ubuntu!

you have to use Recovery CD provided by DELL that came with your laptop & make sure that the Boot Priority in BIOS is given to CD/DVD ROM.

Well go into BIOS(F2) ,on left side choose onboard devices, and under onboard devices go to sata operation, change it to ata from ahci and hence accept changes, save / exit, start format this will surely help you

While that is good that you got rid of Vista, on other hand if you had any hardware related problems and called up the customer care, the first thing they will ask you is to install vista! :D This is what happened with me. So I would suggest you to have vista on another partition just for running their stupid tests and diagnostics. After the warranty period is over you can just wipe it out again :)
