Not able to run AOE2 on VM (98SE/Win2k/WinXP)

When it was dead sure that AOE2 cannot be run on Win7 (without ruining the colors) I thought of running in on the OSs it was meant to run at.

So had VMware installed. Then came a series of failures
1) Win98SE + Directx 8 - Games starts but ends with a black screen, the moment it goes to display the map.
2) Win2kSP4 - same as above
3) WinXPSP2 + Dx9 - same as above

No Success !! :(

Any pointers to play the game (with gfx the way they used to be earlier)
 
VM's are not meant for heavy duty tasks like gaming (yes, AOE2 is heavy duty for it). It cannot do all the rendering. You will have to install the operating system itself to play.
 
^ Hey m8..... it WORKED .. The AOE2 setup had some issues. borrowed retail ver from my friend, worked like charm. And the tricks for win7 also worked so no more color issues.

it worked absolutely fine on VM(with winXP) too.
 
Oh all right then. Glad you got it working. I read somewhere that VMs aren't meant for gaming. Maybe they were talking about newer games :).
