Not able to update windows xp

Well as title says.......im not able to enable automatic updates on my windows xp......have also tried enabling it form Run -> services.msc but no luck......microsoft site also shows error that automatic updates is disabled.....what to do now?

Where did you hear that!?!?!

It gives a performance boost to XP, what more do you want? I have been using it with sp3 on my download rig for some time, with no probs.:hap2:
 
From my experience, I could update to SP3 from MS only and did'nt face any problem after that.
 
^^ the main problem is ki im not able to update my windows from Microsoft also......will download auto patcher today n try updating........
 
Hunter if UR primary usage is gaming, then get SP3 U wont regret it.

Manually download and install.

Yes, many people have faced unexplained lockups and BSOD with SP3.
 
now der's a new problem.......i updated windows using auto patcher and now after using 15 min the desktop vanishes means i m only able to see wallpaper.......WTF is going on with me?
 
To enable Automatic Update right click on My Computer->Automatic Updates and select the Automatic option. Dude you should not have used Auto Patcher. Or simply visit windowsupdate.com it will automatically scan your computer and download updates.

Regarding your new problem, try running explorer.exe after the desktop vanishes. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the task managet and in File->New task enter explorer.exe
 
^^ will do so but y is this happening? was not able to update from microsoft site also......it was showing some kind of error and abt auto patcher thing my big brother is also using auto patcher and i used his pc for 2 months and never faced such problem.......
