Some of the Mumbai chaps (whom I met last weekend!) might know I'd screwed my ipod Touch 2g 16gigs display last Friday and was pestering Bikey to get it to the Apple Authorised service centre.
Prologue: It so happened that, one fine day I switched it on for some music, there's a Z-kinda thingie on the center of the display which's essentially a series of dead pixels which'd come thanx to a dent at the back! I got worried and looked up the nearest service centres and found a couple of them in Mumbai. No one stayed close to it until stalker hinted me that Sheroo's (a.k.a ShareKhan) new workplace was close to it at Tardeo.
I'd already loaded the itouch with some movies to keep me engaged while on my journey back home so did not want to leave it with them. Upon my arrival I found that Apple had a couple of service centres at Coimbatore as well (which's like 40km from my place).
So I decided to hand over my itouch to my fiancée who visited me. She handed it over to the guy who was prompt at telling her the address over the phone.
Day 1, 6:00 PM: Hands over the ipod to the guy at the service centre.
Day 2: The guy responds to the RMA request by suggesting that the photo of the screwed display has to be sent to Apple (somewhere!) and that upon its response, the required decision'd be taken. Kept my fingers crossed! I was a lot scared that they'd notice the dent at the back and would reject the request.
Day 3, 11:00 AM: The guy wakes me up with a call saying that the replacement unit's ready and that your lady could come and pick it up anytime! Yay, the guy just made my day!
Bottomline: Apple service's just too good! Hats off to these people (not for not noticing the dent but that they were too prompt to offer a replacement soon enough! No questions asked!)
Wish other companies learn from such instances!
