Friends,

On an quick note, my daughter instantly need a light weight, ultra thin, carriable-handy laptop for medical study.

Main Requirement:-
~Quick browsing of videos on medical from various sites and you tube; Browsing must be without leg & fast acessing.

~Need good optical and USB drive to transfer/read/burn CD/DVD. This is for exchanging medical notes.

~Should be handy; can take & operate anywhere easily.

Other requirement:-
~Long battery back up & Screen reflection quality should be at par as required for long hours reading on lappy.
~Webcam
~Preferable brand: HP, Lenovo,Dell but not a constraint.

Budget - thinking to invest max 30k but not limited.

Pl suggest asap, ok with online shooping. Thanks

If budget is strictly 30k, Asus X200 series is the only option. But screensize will be 11.6 inches. And battery life is crap. But it is very lightweight. 1.4Kg only(not sure if weight advertised includes weight of battery. But since battery is non-removeable, weight should include it)

Macbook air.
Thinkpad X240.
Big hole in pocket.:). Costly for this requirement.

Thanks but X series not having optical drive.

MacBook air & Thinkpad X240 looks good.
Optical drive must to read educational CD/DVD, I think this feature she really required.
Does MacBook & X240 offers optical drive option?

No educational institution uses CD/DVD these days. Everything is kept on a local intranet, so internet access is all you need.
Optical drives are about 1cm tall, so its difficult for ultrabooks which are designed to be slim and light to fit them in. Worst case, you can add a USB connected external optical drive.

Optical drive required for medical CD/DVD read and copy.

Shortlisted below Lappy. Which one best pick?
(1) Lenovo G5030 ~Rs.24k

(2) Dell I 3545 ~Rs.27k

(3) Asus X551CA ~Rs.25k (No optical drive but card reader & HDMI are plus)

(4) HP 15-p028TX ~Rs.38k (less 5% SBI disc) at Reliance digital. I know its on higher budget than other 4 but looks promising.

(5)HP 15-r078tu ~ Rs.24k

Dell inspiron Windows 8 touch screen series with 15.6 inch and i5 processor, 4gb ram
Around 45k on Flipkart
Or i3 around 35k
It's one time investment and buy best one.

HP and Asus strictly no no,
Service issues. Check your local service network.

Buy thinkpad series of lenovo i3 version is 30k if very constrained in budget

Don't buy cheaper laptops they aren't worth.
Buy 4th generation Intel processor, even Pentium would do for constrained budget, remarkable in battery life.

HP and Asus strictly no no,
I never recommend HP to anyone but I think Asus is just fine. Solid build quality. Service should not be an issue.
Some good laptops with i3 & optical drive are:

The lenovo & Dell ones are 4th gen while Asus is 3rd gen.

Forget the optical drive bundled with the notebook. Get an external DVD Drive costs around 1.5k.
Go with Mac Air/Thinkpad/inspiron touch series, since they have good battery backups, sleek,,weigh less and looks good too. The bigger ones weighing above 2.5 kg are not suited for carrying around.

Macbook air.
Thinkpad X240.
Almost 3 months searching, finally, adding more options to above two:
Dell :- Latitude 6430u(HD+), 13-7000 series, XPS-13
Lenovo:- Flex-14, Yoga 2 (13)
Apple: MacBook Pro (consider over Air just due to optical drive option in Pro)

If budget keeping aside, what would be best VFM-bet to my requirement for daughter? Wish to order instantly upon finalise.[DOUBLEPOST=1420796517][/DOUBLEPOST]
