can you share your experience with the generic fw upgrade . the device isnt getting detected as USB . its on at&t locked fw
 
^ Yes, the AT&T firmware doesn't work through USB, you can only access the web UI if you connect it through USB.

But if you upgrade to the generic fw, it works in USB mode as well as the normal wifi hotspot
 
It is not detected as modem , 1/10 times all the ports+Novatel HSUSB gets detected . I am using the latest drivers from novatel website.The problematic component is the virtual ethernet adapter . I will try updating the generic fw on other laptop . Is the generic fw click and run or any other configuration is required?
 
As I said, with the AT&T it never worked as a Modem. It detects everything but you cannot connect it via USB and dial a connection. For that you need to use the generic fw.

Yes, its just click and run, it will update the firmware on the Mifi, takes 15-20 minutes though.
