Internet in India is hitting a new low day by day. Now Vodafone has launched a unlimited 2g data plan with a FUP of 2gb after which the speed is restricted to 40kbps at 145 per month.

At the time when isp's should be removing FUP from broadband connections, they're instead putting limitations on already slow connections !!

Any comments guys?

FUP is there so that they can say unlimited data.

Docomo says unlimited 3G at 250 bucks which is 1Gb 3G and rest at low speeds.

Ban them I say :P

FUP on 3G data is understandable but this is the first time some network is Fup' ing 2g data.

And that's different from fixed data plans.

99/- for 2GB data offered by Vodafone itself. Why would one be interested to pay 149/- for same ?

FUP on 2G

^^ Dunno about your circle but Vodafone gives 1GB for 98 here.

And I paid 145 thinking that they might not be stupid enough to throttle 2g speeds. But I was wrong. They're throttling the connection badly.

Airtel has 149/- for free 2GB @ Edge speeds after which data is not chargeable.

Otherwise 98/- for free 1GB at Edge speeds and chargeable after that.

Planning to take a Vodafone connection in couple of weeks. How much is the EDGE / 2G plan for 1/2GB ? You pay 99 ?
Because my wife (Mumbai circle) has got SMSes few times stating that we can get 2G data for 15X rupees. With the speeds we have, i am sure i wont be crossing even 1GB on 2G so i am fine with that.

Ok found this...

raksrules i dont think Vodafone offers 2GB @ 99/- plan anymore.

Ok i would be going either with 250 Rs 3G -1GB plan or the 99 Rs - 2G-1GB plan. Lets see.
How good is Vodafone EDGE in general use ? For iPhone ? And casual mobile surfing at home (using personal hotspot) ? I don't really intend to use that for downloading anything, just usual FB and random sites.

Also these companies want to promote 3G more and more and want the people who are on 2G plans to migrate to 3G and hence putting these ridiculous restrictions on 2G.

plus the 2G auctions have failed miserably. so 3G would be preferred for these operators I guess.
vodafone's postpaid 2g/3g plans are even more costly than prepaid plans. why?

I have used both 2G and 3G vodafone data plans, My experiences are :-

  • 2G - 95 for 2GB(at that time) Very poor speeds around 50-60 kbps which is only suitable for checking mails, facebook etc on the go it is not even considered good for surfing i guess out of 2GB i have used a max of 200 MB by really pushing my on the go usage,it is a total waste of money

  • 3G - 250 for 1Gb(present plan) So so speeds for 3g average around 1.8-2 mbps which is good for hd video streaming on the go but coverage is very limited in my area overall worth 250 bucks spent.

Both have 1 month of validity period

I currently don't have access to broadband and am using a bsnl 2g connection. Rs. 245 for a month of 10gb 2g. Speed is slightly under 20kB/s downloads.

No point in putting FUP on 2G connections, actually its a joke, you will run out of the plan period(i.e 1 month) before hitting the 1 GB mark

Edit: Repositioned the phone near the window and am now getting a max sustained download speed of ~26kB/s ! :bigok:

Finished the last 10gb pack in about 2 weeks. So say 500 bucks for 20gb/month. Not too bad given the situation.
