Andhra Pradesh government, led by tech-savvy Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, plans to provide broadband connections with peak speed of 15 Mbps to twelve million households for as low as Rs 150/month in the first stage of its about Rs 5,000-crore optical fibre project.

The state government has asked the Centre to provide its share of funds from ongoing National Optical Fibre Project that aims to connect 2.5 lakh gram panchayats across the nation by December 2016.

"AP has asked the Centre for permission to execute the broadband project on its own. The state has requested for its share from funds earmarked by the Centre for NOFN project in the state. The Telecom Commission on January 7 accorded in-principle approval to the proposal with some riders," an official source told PTI.

The Union Cabinet will take a final call on the project. Andhra Pradesh has proposed to deliver broadband connection with 10-15 mbps download speed to each 12 million households for Rs 150/month that are planned to be covered under state designed project, the official source added.

At the peak promised speed of 15 Mbps, an user can download video file equivalent to a standard bollywood movie in about 6 minutes.

Private telecom operators are at present providing broadband connection with similar speeds for about Rs 1,100 per month in the state.

Andhra Pradesh has proposed to execute the project at cost of Rs 4,913 crore in 5 years while Centre has earmarked Rs 1,940 crore for the NOFN project in the state.

"The state has said that it will arrange remaining funds on its own," the official said.

For executing this project, the state will create its own corporation to be named Andhra Pradesh Fibre Corporation which would 100 per cent owned by state. This corporation will manage the network and own the assets.

The state will create another entity in name of 'Digital Andhra Corporation' using Public-Private-Partnership model that will be responsible for creation of ecosystem for broadband adoption.

He knows Central Govt plan to connect all panchayats is time wasting and Doesn't bring anything productive to End user except brag that we have a optical fiber network.
By asking AP's their share of NOFN, They want to run the project on their own. Excellent.

If its unlimited without FUP then I would like to settle to Hyderabad :)
It's not in Hyderabad Sir, Hyderabad is in Telangana.
Vijayawada - Andhra Pradesh

Oh then let me move to Vijayawada :)

Jokes apart, this is awesome initiative. I just hope its implemented perfectly.

I am seeing main obstacles as TATA and Airtel bandwidth pricing, Even BSNL's or any PSU bandwidth pricing aint better.
Unless they identify the Tier 1 Bandwidth Pricing issues and Regulate it from time to time.. Cheap Internet prices remains a Distant dream.
Also, this price for 10mbps might be possible If they're going to be a Non Profitable company.

Reliance Jio Might offer a lot better prices. I'm in a Wait and watch :wtf: mode

Hyderabad is now known to the world because of that guy, Forget World even India Didn't knew hyderabad had Information technology until it gave tough competition to Bangalore.
KCR is PR face, I need not to Tell.. Everyone knows he's a Crap.. Makes everyone Ch**tiya every other morning after hard hangover.
No offence, truth cannot be hidden.
Enough Said.

Now don't make this a political thread. That guy in reality knows bull about technology
* well in comparison with others i said. Who knows what about technology & all the BS people who shoot & Scoot time will decide, Till then lets keep the topic to words such as Broadband, High Speed Internet, NOFN and Telecom department, India. Etc.

I said that coz I personally know atleast 2 public representatives of his core team

^ If Naidu can actually make tech stuff instrument of mainstream politics, i think that ll be a huge push in itself.
Even if some younger gen politicians are there, i have hardly heard anybody making the right noise with things like broadband.

Either Naidu is a tech aware person, or his PR team is. Either way i am happy about the kind of talks taking place.

I am hoping that Telangana does something similar just because they want to compete. ;) "I want it too, just because the guy next door has it." mentality.

To be critically correct, Mr. Naidu is copying lot of already announced schemes of TS government and central government and creating huf puf air that those are his initiatives. We'll see in future, who does what and how the words will be converted to reality.
