Guys, need help!!!
i just did some cable management with my pc. After i connected everything, i am getting the error NTLDR missing.

i have the grub bootloader, which i reinstalled, still the same problem!

so , i booted the comp using the winxp cd and when the prompt comes "press any key to boot from cd", i press enter and the comp boots into GRUB and from there i am able to boot into windows.

pls help!!!

i have got this message 2-3 times while OCing .... have't found any solution till date .... every time i have to reinstall the OS ..... :( .... if somebody know the remedy for the problem please post it here ..... once i also got message system.xxx missing that time i also reinstalled the OS .....

First check whether the boot order of the drives is fine. Next boot using the CD, go to recovery console, type the commands fixboot, fixmbr. This will screw up grub btw. So you have to reinstall grub. (i think its grub /install but not sure). Anyway I shudn't be offering advice on fixing linux thingies :P

dipdude: i did that, dint solve the problem :(
chaos: i did that too, now grub is screwed but ntldr is still missing

p.s: system back to stock settings

if thats the case then, your system is trying to boot from some removable source, check your bios options & remove any card readers etc, make sure you dont have floppy or cd in the drives.

are able to enter windows now using grub or even that is gone ?

or try one additional step,
copy x:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy x:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

also make sure your ide cables are not loose, also check the boot.ini file for the os path, see if it is pointing to the os correctly.

dipdude, all ide cables are fine, and i reinstalled grub again.
i am able to access grub only if i boot using winxp cd.

i will try ur method again.
thanx a lot.

p.s: tried copying ntdetect, says access denied.

also what should i be lookin for in boot.ini?

A friend of mine had the same problem when he was trying to install winxp after installing win 98 (i.e., dual os).
Nothing i did worked. Ended up formatting the hdd, connecting it to another hdd and installing it via the other hdd (if i remember correctly)

try booting from xp, followed be repair xp & then copy the files.
in the boot.ini file check if the os path is pointing to the correct location.

if this does not help, you might have to reinstall xp, as your hard disk maybe corrupted badly. if you have o/c your system, then bring to default again.

Then most probably the conectors(data or power) to hdd must have gone loose or the rams got loose.

Ntldr missing , missing system.XXX error messages are the direct result of data corruption while overclocking.
it could be due bad cpu o/c or memory o/c (more likely)

guys, why dont you atleast run memtest after every increase in frequency (cpu or memory). this can be done via the bootable memtest cd. atleast doing this will give you a fair idea of the status of the o/c without putting ur precious data to risk.
