The 5 year old TVS UPS used for the old P4 system at my parents place is dead.
APC UPS is not available locally (The place is a small town in TN)
Numeric UPS 600VA is available for Rs.1750 (Rs.1550 in Chennai) locally with 2 years onsite warranty.
Should i go ahead with the purchase?

Plz share ur thoughts and +ve/-ve experience with the Numeric UPS.

^^

It is manageable. I used one once for around 2 years. In between once some circuit component shorted and had to be replaced. But it was able to provide decent back up -- was an old P4, so not much load. They are fine, for the type of computer you have in mind, would not suggest for high end gaming/OC systems.

Even if a upgrade it would be the most basic dual core. So it should be fine i guess. Thanks for the heads up :)

DarkAngel, forgive this trespass, but can someone please suggest me a good UPS for my desktop. What is the kind of back-up i should be looking for, i for one will be happy with around 15-20 min, anything more would be great. I am a total newb when it comes to UPS. So please also suggest the right brand and cost involved.

My config is,

Athlon II X2 5200+,

M2N68-AM Mobo,

Transcend 2GB DDRII,

Seagate 7200.12 500GB,

XFX 8600 GT 256MB,

VIP Gold 400W,

Acer 18.5" LCD

I hope this much info suffices.

TIA :)

APC is the best. The 550VA costs 1.9k in Chennai and will easily power your config for 15 mins. They offer 2 years onsite service too.

I have a 17" CRT. Forgot to mention that in the initial post.

Hi Guys. Now i have 2 options.
Numeric 600VA ~ Rs.1750 (Service center available locally)
APC 550VA ~ Rs.2300 (Service center 70kms from my place)

The price is local price. As UPS is a heavy item i guess shipping cost me more. So i guess the price is pretty decent for locally available item.
I know APC is better quality wise. Just wanted feedback about their service. Is anyone staying this far from the service center and got +ve/-ve feedback about their service? How good is their onsite support?

APC on-site support is top notch! The service personnel attend to the issue within a day or 2 max after you lodge a complaint with them and give you a temporary replacement whilst the UPS is in service or a refurb in return.

Thats good to hear :) Thanks.

DarkAngel,

Go with APC, using APC 550 UPS from last 1-2 months no problem & serve well when power-cut took place. APC battery cost is higher than others but easily available.
