NV Silencer 5 --- Is it worth it ??

Hi all

I am on the verge of requesting my uncle to get me an NV Silencer from the US. I have a BFG 6800GT which runs at 76 deg C at load and around 58 at idle......

The max stable oc I have got is 419/1171. At this speed, I did not get any artefacts while running 3D MARK 05.

Do you guys think it will be worth it if I get an NV Silencer 5 ??? Please give your recommendations.....

Will it guarantee me a better oc ??? That is my main query..... what is the use if buying it if I am not able to OC further???

That cant be said. You might be at the max of the chip already. However if you wanna reduce noise as well as temperatures, its a good buy.

like chaos said, that cant be guaranteed. Also the silencer will help in reducing case temps :)

I would vouch for this too...I use an evga 6800 GT with the Nv silencer. Have ocd it to 425/1140 couple of times, a more regular OC wud 415/1125 . Of course it wud the OC wud vary from card to card. Bt it is really silent n the temps r aroun 45-48 at idle n 60-65 on load.

I would reccomend the zalman VF-700cu over the silence, in almost all cases lower temps than the silencer, and it cools the whole pcb instead of just the card and ramsinks!

If you can go for that!!

FYI Zalman dosent cool whole PCB.
Yes IMO its better than NV silencer if you have good case flow. Its known to give better temps compared to NV5. But it dosent cool RAM or PCB. It cools core and you need to use small ramsinks on the memory.
Its massive size is what gives very big surface area to decipate heat and hence it cools better.

Yup the nv silencer is better if ur case doesnt have good airflow as it dumps all the hot air outside the case. The zalman is a flower type HSF that sits on the gpu and has 8 ram sinks to cool the ram. Both are within 1-2 deg of each other, so i'd base my decision on price where the silencer wins easily ;)

well...with the zalman at 12V blowing on the ramsinks they get cooled very well...and yes it does cool the PCB, the air from the HSF moves across the board. Believe me i have one.

withouth ramsinks i got max of 1160 with ramsinks and VF-700 able to go to 1230 no probs.

and almost all the time i see the silencer more expensive than the zalman
