nVidia has just announced their very own gaming console, Project SHIELD. This console will be another of the upcoming Android Gaming Consoles. Or will it stand out?
nVidia Project SHIELD

nVidia'a Project SHIELD is a handheld gaming console that allows you to play, well Android games. Before we discuss any further, let's straight away jump in to it's specifications:
  • nVidia Tegra 4 chipset (4+1 design)
  • Quad Core ARM Cortex A15 CPUs
  • 72 core ULP GeForce GPU
  • 5" HD (1280*720) multi-touch display
  • Stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS
  • PC display streaming
  • Custom Bass Reflex Audio System
  • 38 Wh battery, 5 to 10 hours of gameplay

The new Tegra 4 chipset has already been covered here. The new chipset moves to a Cortex A15 architecture. These CPU cores might be clocked at as high as 1.9 GHz. The 72 core GPU adds more to geek orgasm.

A 5" HD display with a 294 ppi pixel density which is nothing to laugh at. The GPU will easily be able to power it. Not only that, the console will pack Stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS with no skinning on top. You get the pure Android experience. Full access to Google Play Store backs that up.

The console will also feature PC display streaming where you can watch and play a PC game using the console via streaming (the game is rendered on the PC itself, only the controller and display are used as input and output devices respectively).

Honestly, this console simply destroy's Sony's PlayStation Vita at every front. There is simply no way the PS Vita can compete except if it brings the best of PS3 titles to it, which by the looks of it won't happen anytime soon. The console will launch some time in Q2 2013. No further details on pricing, sadly.
