Chipmaker Nvidia has unveiled its fourth generation mobile chipset for smartphones and tablets at CES tonight.
The Nvidia Tegra 4 chipset is based on Cortex A 15 architecture and sports quad-core design with 72 GPU cores which makes it dramatically faster than current Tegra 3 chipset which has Cortex A9 cores and 12 GPU cores.
The Tegra 4 is based on 28 nm process and maintains the 4 plus 1 design similar to its predecessor in which the fifth core is used to maintain power efficiency.
Tegra 4 also includes HDR or high dynamic range in which the processor takes two photos quickly and combines them into single , richer photo. But compared to other chipsets , the Tegra 3 is much faster ( takes 0.2 sec per frame ) , making it 10 times faster than the iPhone 5 which took 2 seconds to take an HDR shot. The Tegra 4 also includes two more feature - HDR panorama and tracking moving objects.
