Graphic Cards Nvidia cards more popular for playing Half-Life 2

What about now? The 6600GT simply rules the mid-end market, with no ATI product in the same price range coming close performance wise. So if the promotion was targeted specifically at the 9800/9600 cards, ATI may have achieved their goal but in the overall scenario they have lost heavily.

If you show this survey to a prospective card buyer the first thing visible will be that nVidia is more popular that ATI, at least according to this chart. So the decision in most cases will be to go with the leader. That is what ATI should be afraid of and not congratulate themselves that the boost in sales of 9800 was the result that really mattered.

I bet that marketing guys at nVidia are hugging themselves for the free promotion campaign that seems to be on at the Steam site.

I doubt it :bleh:

When u look at the chart it says 9800 first and 9600 second.
I seriously doubt people are going to look at the market share of the gf2mx and gf4mx and conclude that nvidia is better.

Not to mention the Geforce FX 5200 which also were pathetic. ATI joined the bandwagon too releasing the 64bit cards..

Right now the Geforce 6600 GT gives the best bang for the buck but so X800XL and now 6800 GT...

EDIT : Infact Nvidia might be just a lil worried because not too long back they were the clear market leaders by a margin the gap has almost closed now. With ATI yet having strong lineup

@daviescool, you should have started worrying seriously if your 6800GT *wasn't* working great with HL2! That card can handle any game you care to throw at it and not sweat.

@Whiplasher, what you say is true, not many people will conclude nVidia's leadership by looking at the marketshare of gf2mx and gf4mx cards but that is not the point. The point is that 51% prefer nVidia. That is why ATI should be worrying. As of now they are playing catch-up instead of being leaders as they once were. The wheel has turned full circle and without a doubt, it will turn again and again... But for the moment, nVidia with the 6600GT and SLI are top of the heap.

Whats interesting is that the current generation of nVidia cards being a huge success, none of them seem to show up high on the list. Whereas yesterday's talk of the town: the mid-range 9800s/9600's from Ati are at #1, and #2 position, only goes to conclude more people went in for the 9800/9600 and are sticking to them making it a worthy investment :)
