Nvidia G72 due 'early 06'

Nvidia has scheduled its G72 graphics processing unit (GPU), which will be manufactured using 90nm process technology, to be introduced in early 2006, according to sources at Taiwan graphics card makers. The G72, a 90nm version of the G70 GPU, will compete with the 90nm R-series from ATI Technologies, which will announce the launch of its long-awaited R520, RV515 and RV530 GPUs on October 5, U.S. time, indicated the sources.

The 90nm G72 will have a much smaller size than the 0.11-micron based G70 allowing for multiple GPUs to be utilized on one graphics card through SLI technology, providing an effective and attractive alternative to those who do not want to fork out money for two graphics cards, the sources claimed.

Graphics card makers are ready to ship R520- and RV515-based products, following ATI’s official release, according to sources at the makers. RV530-based graphics cards will be volume shipped at the end of this month, indicated the sources.

Wow G72 anounced by Nvida.
Gr8 Stuff

Thanks for the info blade

But i thought that 7600 wud be released as a mid segment card.
Its is going to be released as a mid segment card. Will sport higher clocks with a 128 bit memory bus mostly.

@ sandy: this isnt the 7900 ;) dont worry.

actually they don't need the 7900 ..... now the situation is same like it was when nvidia 6 series and ATi x8xx series was there ..... i know that X850XT PE was better than 6800U and GT in some cases ...... but i found very few people here with a X850XT PE (are there any??) ..... place is full of 6 series cards .... even the X1800XT is the performance king but when it comes to VFM i think nothing beats nvidia 7 series cards ..... and the best thing is they are still reducing the prices ..... cheers for nvidia ....

well said rahul. but atm i guess for some1 who can spend around 500$ on a card he should go for the x1800xt cause its just 50$ more than the gtx. i would like to know if there is a comparison of the x1800xt 256mb & 7800gtx 256mb. the 512mb card is around 100$ more than the gtx but it surely gives performance worth spending another 100$ although the opengl performance is somewhat sad.

Actually even ATi follow a similar process of implementing the newer manufacturing processes on lower-end cards , waiting for the technology to mature / working out bugs and then implementing it on higher-end cards in the next generation.

Take for example the 9800 series - all cards were based on the 0.15 micron process, the 9600 series cards are all 0.13 micron based manufacturing.

X850XT PE is again 0.13 micron based , while the mid-range X800's were 0.11 micron as also the newer products released like the X800XL and the X800GTO.

Reason behind the logic - we all know what happened with the Prescott right? ;)

with 128 interface it wont be poweful at all..
lets see if it come close to 6800 gt or ultra......

then we might have one new question same like old one - normal 6800 or extreme 6600gt..

so new will be normal 7600 or 6800 ultra..

what do u think.....

anyways who said it gonna be 128bit ........

LOL infact even if Nvidia dont release a mid segment card right now its ok, as the 6800NU outperforms the X1600XT. Thats the sad part which you guys dont understand, no competion means slower tech.

Also at present the 7800 GT is definitely has a more VFM right now compared to X1800XL, but X1800XT is a diff story altogether.....

Let me quote
Given previous comments from NVIDIA officials it would seem likely that 7800’s G70 chip would be the last 110nm desktop chip NVIDIA produce, with subsequent chips being 90nm based. It is expected that the high end G70 will also be augmented with lower end chips (G71, G72) to address the entry level and mainstream market positions – like the GeForce 6 series, which had the high end NV40 on the 130nm process and the lower end chips on 110nm, it would make sense that subsequent G7x based chips would be 90nm.

Having a 90nm chip clocked higher than the original 7800GTX and having "256-bit memory" according to you won't make business sense since the cost will be too high and the chip is likely to invade the low-end 7800 parts in performance. Hence my guess is that it will sport 128 bit memory interface to check costs.
