Graphic Cards Nvidia G92s and G94 reportedly failing

^^ not really, the issues are mostly in the mobile series parts. i do not think desktop parts would be impacted that much. Anyways the 8800 series was launched in late 2006, so if it ould really have been this bad for the desktop parts we would have known from fellow users in TE at least. Laptop parts get delivered to the vendors where they sit for sometime before being integrated with the laptops and then sold. So their lives start relatively later than the desktop parts which find a home quicker. So if desktop parts did have problems of that magnitude, we should surely have heard about that by now. Worry mostly for people with laptops with Nvidia M series, and thing to watch out for people who are thinking of getting a laptop soon.

One might argue that these are same chips. That is correct, but not all depends on the chip. M series cards have to be designed a lot slimmer and trimmer than the desktop monsters due to space constraints. The main place of compromise comes to cooling mechanisms, so they have a lot more heating issues that their desktop kins, which just might be one of the main reasons of failure.

^^ Its only G92 & later which are affected. And they were launched arnd late last year. G80 bases parts are reported to be fine :)

And G84, G86 parts defects were known to Nvidia but they choose to hide it for almost 7-8 mnths

Holy krappp...

Believe it or not.
I have a friend with a 8800GT who has issues with his pc once in a while, not booting up after shutting down the previous time.
He can get into safe mode everytime but no proper boot when this occurs.
Has to go through driver cleaner etc and it works- after struggling for a day or 2 at times.
System has no issues with other cards he has. :S

means you say , the guys feeling problem have not tried dreiver cleaning, flashing to new BIOS stuff ?

yes might posibble and we also do not have proper figures or claims of "theinquirer"

nor we have seen it on TE ............so it might be problem what BIKEY sir has said

well, initial batches of 8800gt had cooler problems, specially factory oc'ed ones (small fan, single slot and automatic fan control was broken in initial bios' of many brands).

Later nv replaced the reference with a larger fan and fixed in bios.

I personally know the msi 8800gt oc edition having high rma rates (one with old cooler and auto fan control in bios were broken)
