@Renegade if possible, can you change this to Discussion from Article? Can't edit it on my end or delete the post. I wasn't sure whether news was supposed to be posted as a Discussion Thread or Article.

Geforce RTX 5080 and 5090: Alleged change of schedule for dates

Apparently there are minor adjustments to the dates for the Geforce RTX 5080 and 5090. Not officially confirmed yet, but the RTX 5080 test embargo will probably be split.

Recently, new dates for the release of the Geforce RTX 5080 and 5090 have been making the rounds. Instead of January 24th for the test embargo of the Geforce RTX 5090 and January 30th for the test embargo of the Geforce RTX 5080, January 29th is now mentioned for tests of the Geforce RTX 5080 according to RRP and January 30th for tests of cards outside the RRP - i.e. primarily the custom models with and without OC. There does not seem to be such a separation with the Geforce RTX 5090.

In any case, all cards are scheduled to go on sale from January 30th, as already publicly confirmed by Nvidia. Staggering the tests may also have logistical reasons, for example to organize the shipping of the cards and give the testers some leeway. There are currently no dates for the Geforce RTX 5070 and Geforce RTX 5070 Ti. Nvidia itself has given February. So the dates - as previously known and not officially confirmed - are as follows:

  • January 24th: Tests of the Geforce RTX 5090 FE + custom designs
  • January 29th: Tests of the Geforce RTX 5080 FE
  • January 30th: Tests of the Geforce RTX 5080 custom designs
  • January 30th: Release of the Geforce RTX 5090 and 5080
  • February 2025: Release of Geforce RTX 5070Ti custom designs
  • February 2025: Release of Geforce RTX 5070 custom designs

Interested to see how the raw performance measures up to the previous gen without all the frame gen bullshit.
5090 ~ 30 to 35% faster for 25% more money vs 4090
5080 ~ 12 to 20% faster for same amount of money as 4080 super
5070ti ~ 20 to 25% faster for a bit cheaper
5070 ~ 20 to 25% faster for a bit cheaper

Source : Nvidia showed slides without DLSS and MFG performance as well.. actually 3rd party reviews for 5090 and 5080 coming soon.

They showed only for Resident Evil 4 AFAIK and they didn't compare it to the 4080 Super but the regular 4080.
The gap was so less between the 4080 and 5080 that I think for pure rasterization, the 5080 would be equal or slightly better than the 4080 Super.

The FE model starts at 1.07 lakhs so I doubt the AIB models will be cheaper than that. 4080 Super is available for 1.01 and above.

I'm getting the RTX 5080 FE (AIB ones at higher price not worth it imho.. heck even the FE should've been 899 instead of 999) ... but only cause i cannot afford the 5090, even the 5080 barely on EMI on credit card and only cause i need a decent powered card for work reasons as well... been holding off the 4080 purchase cause i knew the 5080 would be similar in price (i had my sources).. but i absolutely agree that the 5080 is gimped heavily.. if a 5080ti existed at 1200~1300 usd price point with 24gb of memory and was 30~40% faster than 4080.. i would've gone with that but now i can't wait any longer to make the purchase :/

They castrated the 5080 solely because of a likely 5080 Ti/Super launch, down the road.
