Graphic Cards Nvidia gfx card problem

Nvdia card, is unable, to use full 32mb onboard card memory and under-performing
(with gfx and sound)
Pls read the scenario below...

I have got a AMD64 3 GHz pc and other Amd k62 500 with 128 mb ram and 20 gb hdd and i m using win98, on this pc.
So i decided to purchase a 2nd hand 16 or 32 mb gfx gard and use it, to play games on lan, like AOM, AOE, CS and other stategy games with low details.

I can't buy 64 or 128 mb card, coz my pc only supports upto 2x mode (3.3v).

So i got 2 gfx card.
1. Nvidia TNT2 Model 64 Ultra (32 mb)
2. Voodoo3 (16 mb)

So, the problem is with the nvidia one.
After intalling the card,
When the pc booted, it shows (b4 memory test),

Nvdia TNT2 Model 64 Ultra v2.04.16
32 mb

Then i loaded the driver fr the cd which came with the card.
Directx shows, it has a onboard memory of 15.5 mb

Pls see the attachment, abt directX information regarding this card.

Then i downloaded the driver pack fr nvidia site for win9x.
When i tried to install it, it says,
"Setup was unable to locate any NVIDIA graphics chip, on this system."
And installation was automatically terminated.

Then i download Nvidia Detonator, hoping it will solve my prob.
THen i removed the gfx adaptor and removered it driver fr os , then rebooted and installed the Detonator.

....The problem prevailed.........
Directx shows the same. "onboard memory of 15.5 mb"

Where-As, the voodoo3 card (16mb), Dx shows, onboard memory of 14.5 mb.

While playing games, nvidia card under-performs in comparision to voodoo card
(even the voodoo card, doesn't supports, AGP texture Accelaration)
Also, the sound is not clear, while playing games, using Nvidia card...

The Nvdia card, is unable, to use full 32mb onboard card memory and under-performing,
Is it bcoz i m using in-compatibale driver ??

If u guys have used this card b4 , pls suggest a solution, OR paste a link, of appropriate driver for the nvidia card (for win9x).

Thanx in-advance

Did you try doing a fresh install... If not then do a fresh installation of the PC and then try again... Aslo all AGP 4x cards are backwords compataible so TNT2 shouls work absolutely fine... I beleive that even GF one would work fine... AFAIR my freind had an GF1 with K62 500...

Here r some more details which i gathered from Si-Sandra.
Pls check out the attachments.

Since i have little knowledge abt gfx card's capabilities, i have attached it for u geeks, hoping it will give u more idea abt this card and give me a solution.

Well all of them say(dxdiag, sandra and whatever else) that its a Riva TNT and not TNT2. If its a TNT, it can only be 16MB and not 32MB cos no 32MB TNT ever existed. So I think its reporting fine. Anyway a 16MB TNT would be better than a 32MB TNT2 M64 in 99% of the cases as the TNT has 128bit memory access. My advice... dump both cards and get a GF4MX. They are backward compatible to 2X AFAIK.

But when i boot the pc why it shows :

Nvdia TNT2 Model 64 Ultra v2.04.16
32 mb

instead of 16 mb like voodoo3 does ????

Pls enlighten me Chaos :S

But does GF4MX will b compatible with Via Apollo MVP3 (Hot-591P), coz this mobo only support agp card with operating volt 3.3 NOT 1.5 or 0.8

If its a 2x board it'll work. If its a 1x board, it wont. There is no card of that name. Probably its a hacked bios or something. Could you post the name and number of the memory chips here.

Yep...heard this thing before. Its a fake in all probability with BIOS flashed or hacked or some shit. The 100% sure way would be to remove the heatsink and see the chip markings directly (keep some extra heatsink compund handy for replacement).

Its quite possible though that chip markings might have been scrubbed clean off, if the fakers were really serious.

I don't know how to identify memory chip number, Anyway, there 3 line on the chip.

1. HYUNDAI KOREA

2. Hy57V161610D

3. 0038A TC-8

There r 8 memory chips.
