Launch on the 4th of April

NVIDIA plans to severely drop its prices. Its partners are not too happy with the 7300 GS, simply because it is expensive.

Well Nvidia is about to launch a new card - the Geforce 7300 GT and this card will use DDR 2. It will come equipped with 256MB of memory and we suspect that it will use a 128 bit memory interface, at least we hope so. Geforce 7300 GS uses 64 bit memory and that's why it cripples the performance of the rather nice part.

We know that Nvidia plans to price this card at $99 and that means that 7300 GS has to drop in price. We know that ATI's X1300 sells much better and Nvidia has to do something about it.

There is not much money to be made as an add in board partner cost is around $75. So in order to make some money, you simply need to ramp up the volumes.

If your core doesn’t do the job you just drop the price and do the additional adjustments. That always does the trick.

Geforce 7300 won't do SLI

Nvidia officially acknowledges that its entry level, low end cards won't do SLI.

Nvidia promoted SLI for 6600 generations of cards but never slower than that. Now you can plug two 7600 GT or faster cards and still enjoy SLI but you won't be able to buy two 7300 GS cards and put them together.

At this time Nvidia won't allow you to do it even though it is technically possible.

Meanwhile, ATI wants to get more aggressive on the Crossfire side. It knows it can do much better than it's currently doing, but ATI will let you use two X1300s and make a cheaper Crossfire - we've tried that and it works. Nvidia still won't, but we are sure it will change its mind at some point.

Well don’t just take my word for it. Check Nvidia's official web page here.
