hey people,

i'm a lil confused abt choosing between a factory OC 8800GT and buying a standard 8800GT and installing a good after market cooler to manually overclock..
a good factory OC card from EVGA or XFX costs $310. and a standard XFX non OC costs abt $270. a difference of $40, about the same that a good VGA cooler wud cost..so..is it worth it?

also, does it make sense in gettin a 8800GT from the US..? cos unfortunately i'm not updated with the local prices..any help wud be really appreciated

please help me out here guys..i need to make a decision and quick..

thanks

there is a difference of around 4k between india and us...if u have relatives travelling abroad freq then definitely get the evga card as they provide lifetime warranty..regarding buying a cooler and manually overclocking..kinda risky and doesnt it void ur warranty also???wait for inputs from some senior members too...

thanks jeet..

overclocking voids warranty..true..but i have never heard of any company refusing to replace products citing overclocking as the reason..

i guess my main question is whether adding a VGA cooler is better option over an OC card.

Need more inputs guys..

I prefer the latter- std card with aftermarket cooler- especially if the rig in not in an AC environment- even if not overclocking. :cool2:

That stock cooler is the puniest cooler i have seen ever for such a powerful card. :(

If you see, Funky's EVGA KO is doing 80C under load in AC at 25C and he is getting an after market cooler. :)

I have even heard Galaxy reference 8800GT doing 100C under load- even 85C is not safe for these new gen cards.
It was normal for the upper end Geforce 6 cards but still not considered safe then. :(
