Unlimited edits are great and for someone who was missing this feature from the day one itself it just makes my life a lot more easier on TE.

But yet the concerns raised by some members that this feature will result in chaos in threads and may affect coherency of the posts are true as well.

While I would never want this feature to be scrapped, It would be great if "Reason for Editing" made compulsory instead of being optional

If most users are true in their edits, compulsory "Reason" will help in keeping coherency of the thread.
Also, forcing even a slightest of more effort on part of users do wonders to keep check on trolls. ;)

Even a better option could be forcing "strike through" on edits. I have no idea how it could be implemented but one thing is sure that if it can be put to use it will bring a complete transparency in posts and will take care of coherency and chaos issue.

My two cents

unlimited edits means a good chance of misuse. some accountablity needs to be there, especially in the market sections

No kidding, many boards i'm on have it.

What concerns ?

Infinite edits could really mess up the flow of the threads...

Lol, thats a red herring. Why only on TE this will cause a problem ?

Sometimes u post something you wish you never did, is there an option to remove it, no there isn't now is there.

I'd like to think comments made by an individual *belong* to that individual and not to any board. Now i do realise the mods will certainly oblige a user but why don't they trust us then.

In its history has TE ever allowed edits longer than an hr ?

What was the event (if any) that caused this feature to be revoked

For what, leave it optional, all it has to do is show at what time the edit was made, like everywhere else.

Reason enough to stop discussing this topic...
Market section edits shud be limited though..

Is the market section where there have been probs ?

Money transactions and such...sure..maybe there is some merit to not allowing edits there.

But i was referring mainly to the non-market areas.

I've been out of the loop for some time now on this. Aren't the new features that Apex mentioned already implemented?

My inbox still has a limit of 200 messages. Has there been some change in strategy?

Honestly I preferred the previous limited edits than unlimited edits. This can be real PITA specially in flamewars scenario for everyone including mods.

Atleast you still have option to report the flame posts. those get reported to us as they are while you report.

On the other hand its good for sticky material threads, and guides etc.

If anyone is concerned about misuse, if you spot anything just report it immediately. Will be taken care of.

[/QUOTE]

That's not my quote. I don't support infinite edits AT ALL. I think a person should think over what he has to say very carefully and then post. If u need to edit ur post indefinitely, u shouldn't be posting at all.

In my case, if a thread is very long and I'm following it, I'll have to re read all the posts again whereas I could've followed it up from the last page I'd read upto. I'm meticulous that way:) .

But,hey, I'm not complaining. I'm not the one who'll be doing any clean ups if necessary, it's the mods/ admins. So if it's okay with them, fine. I can live with things I don't like :cool2:

edit: Just imagine someone has given a reply to my post and I edit it, his post is not going to make any sense at all. So he edits it again and what happens to the post after his? And theoretically, in an extreme scenario like a flame war, this can go on for infinity...

+1, this is gonna cause a lot of confusion :ohyeah:

The prev one was better. if any1 needs an edit after the 1hr allowed, they can always PM a Mod :)

Huh ? ur right its not ur quote dunno how that happened must have messed up with the copy+paste :ashamed:

but i guess i (inadvertantly) helped make you point even better :)

Yes I agree with Funky on this one. I dont see why it was needed in the first place.
I'd like to think comments made by an individual *belong* to that individual and not to any board.
So by that argument I am free to take my posts with me when I leave the board. Just stack up the 'find posts by Renegade' and start deleting the text in it. Its my property after all.
Just talking of a scenario where some kid decides to wreak havoc.

Are posts in the Market section also allowed unlimited edits? I could see where that could go wrong. Can you block edits in the Market section?
