Hi !

I have an old sound blaster de 5.1 pci , used to work great.
I just wanted to know is the onboard audio output on the gigabyte board better or should i put in the soundblaster ?

the pci soundblaster is better any day. Onboard sound sucks. If its realtek it is better than other chips like soundmax(very worst). Stick on to the 5.1 card. And is that card come with any HARDWARE ACCELERATION ?. If it , then you will have great sound while gaming. If you want to upgrade your sound card you can go for the SB audigy 2 value which features HW assisted sound.

Hi ! thanks for replying.

This card used to be a rage in its time Soundblaster live 5.1, I realized that all of you'll are aficionado's in the audio world... so thought of some tips.
This card is pretty old , maybe the NOW technology of onboard is better !

would i be needing some drivers or would windows detect and configure it?

The card would beat the onboard hands on - even a layman like me understands that. So stick to the card.

It's like a makeshift bowler of today against a specialist opening bowler of yesterday !!

If your card features HW acceleration (which is offered only in today's expensive cards) then gaming will be great as i said earlier. Long time back one of my friend was using a motherboard which came with a creative soundblaster onboard. FYI he bought it for 10k and that is an INTEL ORIGINAL mobo . Those times mobos were expensive then proccessor. Even that one was great. The sound was crystal clear and it may be on par with the audigy series.

If the mobo which you have comes with a creative audio then you wont need your PCI card .

anfjavid - yes we did have some great cards from some time back, as a matter of fact i still have the AWE 64 an isa card a slot used prior to Pci slots, those cards were really great and creative used to sell their drive, sbs 10 speakers and the internal card as a package deal with remote for Rs 5000. Since the advent of onboard sound a sound cards have remained with only the music buffs.
My board supports the realtek Azalia sound 7.1 (not sure what that means).

Kneo thanks for the input

pci it is.
Do i need any drivers for it or will windows recognize, I got drivers for winme and win2000 lol.
