All of a sudden facing sound issues from my onboard sound, the volume has literally become nonexistent.Well it started with sound coming from just the right channel so played around with the connections but no luck today can hear sound from both channels but the sound is very low have to crank up the volume knob on the AE5's more than half to hear anything.
The motherboard I am using is Asus M2A-VM and the operating OS is Win7(64bit)

P.S The speakers are working fine tried it with other source and even checked the connecting wires they are also fine.

So , one fine day the volume has diminished . And you had to crank up your AE5's volume knob to hear anything at all ?

Best would be to try System restore.

Different speakers , earphones.

Check settings in the CPL.

Unisntall and update to latest drivers.

try with another sets of speakers/headphones

check the cable for extreme bends & brokage. Try with another 3.5mm jack cable.

lastly check in device manager for any audio driver conflicts or warning signs.

Thanks for the suggestions, had tried all of them.Well the the motherboard connection has gone bad :(,so time to invest in a soundcard.

Need help buying a sound card, which option is the better option

1) Buy a cheap sound card like Creative 5.1 Vx and go in for a DAC like Fiio E7 or E9

2) Buy a midrange sound card like Asus Xonar Essence ST or STX

3) Buy a Creative USB Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Sound Card

Between these Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 7.1 PCI and Creative 5.1 Vx which is a better option, will be using with 2.1 speakers and is it worth paying extra for the Audigy 7.1

^^ never used the creative 5.1 card but audigy value too is cheap,so better to go for it if you want the lower end card.

If I am correct AE5 is 2.0 system & for them I feel the Xonars are a better match like ST/STX or nuforce UDAC.

Vivacious yeah the AE5's are 2.0 system but I have added a sub of the Altec Lansing MX5021 along with it.My query was if I go in for UDAC or E7 or E9 I won't need a separate sound card right just the PC's usb will do.

^On a totally unrelated note, how did you add the sub of the MX to the AE 2.0s? Just curious. :)

I'd recommend the Xonar STX if you have that kind of a budget. You haven't mentioned the budget anywhere. This card is miles ahead of the entry level DACs in terms of the SQ. Comes with replaceable opamps as well so you can mix and match them to suit your taste.

Desecrator this is how I connected the sub to the AE5's

And my budget right now is around 6k,so was planning to go for the Fiio e9 as it gives me the flexibility of adding other sources.

^Interesting. How is the output this way? And what about the satellites? Catching dust? :P

E9 doesn't have any great reviews barring few user impressions on the head-fi forums. It is just another entry level DAC IMO. Well, whatever floats your boat! :)

^ I got the AE5's after the right channel on the MX went bad,the output is quite fine it compliments the AE5's well(by the way I am no audiophile :ashamed: ).My query still not answered though, are these DAC's connected via a usb to the PC .

Yes, the DACs are connected to the PC through the USB, optical (toslink) or a coaxial port. Which DAC are you referring to here anyway?

I'd recommend neither. Get the STX. It retails at the 7.5~8k mark IINM. The STX also serves as an excellent headphone amp easily driving some of the high-end cans with high impedances. I do not own one but can certainly vouch for it since I have heard them. Entry level DACs do not offer the best detailing either. Users have already commented on the performance of the uDAC and the E7. E9 has just come out so it would be worthwhile if you can wait for other reviews.

The STX would be the perfect companion for your AE5.
