Onda is one of China's more popular manufacturers for Android devices. They have been making Android tablets for more than a year and sometime or the other, news of their new product makes a splash on a global news website. Well, today we have a new tablet, the Onda V972. And mind you, after finding out more about the tablet, you will cry for why it's a China exclusive and why shouldn't you be able to buy this device in your country, today!
Onda V972

The Onda V972 closely follows the heels of the Apple iPad (new) and Google's latest Nexus 10. Packing a quad core, Retina display and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it really isn't all that behind. Let's have a look at the full specifications:
Onda V972 Full Specifications

  • Quad Core CPU based on ARM Cortex A7
  • PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU
  • 9.7" IPS display, 2048x1536 pixels resolution
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 5 MP rear camera, 2 MP front facing camera
  • 1.4 pounds (650 grams) weight
  • 8,000 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (upgradable to Android 4.2)

Packing a 9.7" display that has the same resolution as the Apple iPad, the Onda V972 brings a feature that is from a $500 upward product into a $240 clam shell. Moreover, the CPU is a quad core one. 2 GB of RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and you already see a Nexus 10 competitor here. The Nexus 10 however, retails for $400. The GPU unit is a PowerVR SGX544MP2 which is more powerful than the Apple iPad 3. It just can't get better. The tablet weighs in at 650 grams, nicely along the weight of the iPad and Nexus 10.

But then comes along the huge 8,000 battery, promising 8-10 hours continuous usage. Another useful feature in this tablet is the inclusion of a micro SD card slot (oh thank god!). Bless you expandable storage (something Apple and Nexus owners sorely miss at times, or more).

The saddest part is that this device will only be available in China. However, adventurous ones do find a way and get it imported. Let's see if this one turns out to be worth that.
