Here we go again :P

Need a UPS. Around 800va will do I think. Config in siggy. Now I understand that all UPSs with usb connectivity can safely shut down the PC when battery runs out. I'm more interested in an UPS which can start the PC when power comes back again :P I'll put my torrent client and wcg client in startup :ohyeah:

I think the smartups series can do this. Any idea about cost? My local dealer gave me obscene prices - 5800 for backups 800 :S Guess a trip to lammy is inevitable.

IIRC, I don't think that rate is bad if its for the smart series 800.:bleh:
Online UPS are very expensive and they are indeed the best.

And APC as usual will be a lil overpriced.:P

For a comparo, an APC 500VA is 2.2K min and a Powercom/powersafe ^00VA is 1.8K or less.
The APC ES650VA is 3K odd.:@

Waiting for Chaos to post here- he has the Smart 800.:)

Ohh, i thought u said Smart.:(
My bad Boss.:P

For the BACK UPS, which Chaos would describe with utter gore, 6K is Daylight robbery.
Unless the dealers are responding to demand for the monsoons.:P

How long is your power cut off for (on average) ?

these short duration ones are more hassle than thier worth i find, i pickd up a APC RS-1000 (main reason being i can add another 3hrs with external batteries). Anything less was not worth the price.

Why do you need a smart-UPS, i thought the only advantage with them was they give you a pure sinusoid output, your SMPS isnt going to care bout that.

IF the PC goes into hibernate, then when the power gets back, if its setup things shoudl resume as normal right ?

The regular scheduled power cuts are not a problem, as long as PC gets shutdown properly. The random cuts are much more irritating.

Never heard about PC starting from hibernation by itself. This is the only feature of smartups I'm interested in.

i have a Br1500

had daily power cuts, not shutdown my rig for 12 days now :bleh:

Chief, I think you paid around 10K for the 1.5kva? That's too much for me. I'll try to get a lower powered smartups. There's a 620 or 650va model as well. Might be slightly cheaper.

Btw, itdepot has the 1Kva smartups for under 8K. IT-Depot
Is this price correct?

that pricing is OK,put around 1.3 k more u get 500Va More,worth the money

Depends on how much load you will place on it, i picked the 1kVa since it was the cheapest i could get and have the option to add more batteries. Rs.7K if i recall correctly was what it cost.

it currently says its provding 84watts, thats a laptop & a P3 +modem, the monitor stays off as i just remote desktop to it.

i have nearly 500watts of spare load to add.

zhop me too looking for a ups....800va one...whose price used to be ard 4.8k..but it has been increased by 1k i guess.......no idea abt online or smart series.....

if u going for one let me know...hope getting 2 may save 200-400 buks less...but let me know which one u getting

arre, its the Back-ups, i would choose the smart ups over the back ups.

Zhop, go for the smart ups.

@that itdepot link, check the shipping :P, anyways the UPS weights a lot.

My Back UPS which Still makes this ODD sound with my antec PSU (My antec PSU makes the sound) when on battery, the sound is quite large and it is due to Back UPs not being full sine wave UPS.

It costed be IIRC 4888/- inclusive of VAT et al, and its 800VA.

Smart UPS which Chaos has is 750VA and costs a bombshell of ~8k :(

@zhopudey .. APEX is a seller of APC UPS as well PCM UPS .. check prices with Nilesh.

@ibmmainframes .. I know that the 750w APC SMART-UPS is NOT an Online unit. It has a pure sinwave output.

@x86 ... I have a BackUPS RS 800 and an Antec TPII 550 PSU ... I have no problems of sound not with this PSU or my last Antec TP 480. Just luck of the draw I guess. :D

^^ no re, Back ups have problem with Antec Neo HE. Me, x86 and even chaos had the problem when he used backups, but he changed to Smart ups. It has problem with few other smps as well iirc.

Add one more to that list- but a Kaput one i.e.:P
(Neo HE 500 + APC.:( )

If one has Neo HE, try and avoid APC and vice versa.:ashamed:

Funky has the OCZ GX700 and he had his fingers as well as toes crossed when he recently got the APC 800VA Back-UPS.:P
Well, his fingers might be uncrossed now as all seems ok till date but i am not sure about his toes.

Hey, I think the APC 650VA is expensive (costs 3k nett in Mysore) coz it gives more back-up time. The 500/600VA APC/powercom/powersafe claim back-up of 15 mins (on paper of course), but the APC 650VA claims 30 mins (and rated at 380W).

Zhops, the APC 1KVA (forgot the model number) with 1hr back-up costs ~7.5k nett in Mysore. U shud get it for a li'l less in Mumbai
