Hello TE's ,

I came across certain things with my dealer who quotes me higher price. So i would like to get stuff online. I heard online purchases will carry Octroi Duties when it enters a city limits . The customer has to bear the taxes and will be paid to the Courier persons. Is it true or just a way to lure the customers. And what are the other things to be careful when you are making a online purchase. All TE Members please guide me.

Yes, Octroi has to be paid by the customers, when they receive the shipment
I thought only Mumbai has octroi, does pune also have this

Navi Maumbai/Thane doesn't have octroi AFAIK.

Thane has octroi. Navi Mumbai doesn't. A few other places in Maharashtra also don't have Octroi.

Other than octroi, which I have no idea about, you should just be careful and try it buy it from a reliable source. In my experience, it is always better to buy from dedicated online merchants like ebay, indiatimes etc rather than buying from say an individual dealer who is running his own site unless he comes with reliable recos. Saves a lot of headaches if the goods are not received on time or are not upto the mark.

Thane has octroi. Navi Mumbai doesn't. A few other places in Maharashtra also don't have Octroi.

I live in Navi Mumbai. That explains why I was not charged any Octoroi for things when ordered online from outside Maharashtra (even though it is mentioned in the deal). I thought Maharashtra has octroi everywhere.
