FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler today is proposing to raise the definition of broadband from 4Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream to 25Mbps down and 3Mbps up.

As part of the Annual Broadband Progress Report mandated by Congress, the Federal Communications Commission has to determine whether broadband “is being deployed to all Americans in a reasonable and timely fashion.” The FCC’s latest report, circulated by Wheeler in draft form to fellow commissioners, “finds that broadband is not being deployed to all Americans in a reasonable and timely fashion, especially in rural areas, on Tribal lands, and in US Territories,” according to a fact sheet the FCC provided to Ars.

We need someone like that. Ironically, our ISPs are in a habit of picking pennies from ground.

The same FCC was considering 10mbps as Definition of Broadband. Anyways it would be Great if they'd make it a regulation.

2mbps minimum here in India by this year end will be a miracle.

US and India have a similar situation, Their Companies lobby for their own set of rules legally and donate them in millions, Infact FCC chairman is an Investment banker & former lobby.
Here We have lobbying bodies and companies making their own set of rules under the table with stubborn Government people.

The only way I think I will ever see 25 Mbps is if I am in another country which is not India.

Or maybe systematically ridiculing the ISPs might get us about half of that mark? Will be pretty good. Not like that is what we should settle for another 20 yrs.

How about being optimistic and Say Another "3 years?". We have already seen 50-100mbps plans few days back within affordable range in the last 2 years itself from So called high speed 4Mbps?.

How did you interpreted my post being pessimistic? :)
Being well aware of our ISPs, i got no doubt that ANY increment will make them sit on it for another 4-5 yrs. And most importantly, the FUP infested plans cannot be categorized as truly upgraded plans. They only improve the plans partially.
