I Posted this on the site of Mr.Dayanidhi Maran today dunno what happens.
Dear Sir,
I want to bring to your notice, the present state of Broadband in India.
In a country such as ours which scaled new heights in IT and ITES sectors,it is really sad that broadband is still just a distant dream. While One should agree that we have come a long way from the era of Rs.15000/month for 100Hrs dial-up,still much needs to be done.
In countries like Japan,US etc. 8Mbit connections are available for the equivalent of 1500Rupees.While it is impractical to ask for similar Amenities in our country which is still in he developing stage,it is still reasonable to ask for basic broadband facilities.
As you might be knowing the service providors charge 5000 to 1000 rupees for an internet connection of 128Kb/s to 256Kb/s with some kind of limit either on amount of time used or the amount of data transferred.Even BSNL charges Rs.500/- for a 256Kb/s with 1Gb limit. What is the use of a broadband connection when the foresaid limit can be surpassed within one day itself with that kind of speed?
The government has taken a step in the correct direction by regulating the usage of the term "Broadband" to speeds greater than 256Kb/s thereby protecting the public from being taken to a ride by the Service providers.
The government should take similar steps towards broadband schemes. The bare minimum broadband package should be a transfer rate of 256Kb/s unlimited data transfer at Rs.500 to Rs.700 per month
My request to the government is to take the necessary steps in this direction thereby insuring good connectivity for us Indians. This also helps to increase the internet penetration and subsequently higher PC penetration in our country.
