But with development and increasing acceptance the Linux developers themselves has started to introduce linux based PC. This gave birth to a refreshing new idea of Open PC.

Vendors providing Linux PC either provide mediocre distro or they offer lackluster system with dated software. Open PC will aims to provide the cutting edge Linux distro featuring latest software and technology of open source. On the top of that you will receive complete support right from Linux gurus.

Open PC will try to open a new dimensions for Linux PC market providing reliable solution and affordable price. A part of the money earned will be donated to other Open Source projects to boost their developments and incorporate newer technologies

DE developer Frank Karlitschek announced the launch of the Open PC Project at the Gran Canaria Desktop Summit. Goal of the project is to assemble a PC fit for optimal use of Linux and free software.

At the summit, Karlitschek asked for support and proposed a PC in the 300 to 400 Dollar price range. The machine will be built by one vendor and part of the profits will flow back into open source projects. According to his presentation, the project will receive support and online-services from the community and there's also a suggestion of an app.-store. .

This ambitious project will start very soon and will deliver a full blown Open Source PC highly optimized for Linux environment .
