DE developer Frank Karlitschek announced the launch of the Open PC Project at the Gran Canaria Desktop Summit. Goal of the project is to assemble a PC fit for optimal use of Linux and free software.
At the summit, Karlitschek asked for support and proposed a PC in the 300 to 400 Dollar price range. The machine will be built by one vendor and part of the profits will flow back into open source projects. According to his presentation, the project will receive support and online-services from the community and there's also a suggestion of an app.-store. .
This ambitious project will start very soon and will deliver a full blown Open Source PC highly optimized for Linux environment .
