OpenDNS - a better DNS server?

While facing continual problems with sify's DNS servers, I found this service called OpenDNS. They claim to provide a better internet service by faster address lookup, incorrect domain name guessing and phishing protection.

I haven't noticed any noticable difference in web site load times, but their phishing protection is interesting. Any domain you type is simply verified before the internet address is returned, such that the browser doesn't need to check against a list of phishing sites everytime you go to a site (like in firefox 2).

YES, its very very nice.

I made it as Secondary DNS.

My default-primary DNS Server(s) of VSNL, sometime faces downtime..... so it helps a lot.

I have been using opendns for last 15-20 days...BSNL's DNS servers were giving time out errors quite frequently. i am sure many other bsnl dataone users are facing the same prob.

after changing to opendns servers, that problem is no longer there...and it does the job quite well. they have a great support team and ur queries or problems are addressed really fast even during holidays. As ujjwal said, the phishing protection is built in and if u mistype any url u can still hope to get to the right location.

OpenDNS is really amazing... have been using it since past 6 months... Gr8 response times, very low latencies, has its own google search if domain not found, protects against malware sites... I think every1 should use it as their primary DNS!!

OpenDNS is very reliable unlike BSNL' DNS servers =( . a nice service . Anyway I use this file which generates a list of servers and its ping . the server with the lowest ping gets listed first so you'll know its the DNS server you should add .. go ahead , download it and run it . it will run for a while and the results will be saved to result.txt in the same folder . ( no credits to me )

It definitely does help. On Airtel, I couldn't visit some other popular sites (time outs), on opendns, faster pings and no timeouts. cool.
