Opera has released the 9.60 version of its desktop browser.
New and improved features in Opera 9.6

Opera Link
Custom search engines and typed history (typed history is only the history you explicitly type or select from the address bar) are now joining bookmarks, notes, personal bar and Speed Dial in Opera Link.

Opera Mail

Feed Preview
Now you can preview an RSS/Atom feed before subscribing.

Follow/Ignore threads and contacts
Follow and Ignore are new features for users that receive numerous messages. It makes it easier to dismiss unimportant messages and easier to recognise important messages.

  • Activate this feature by selecting Follow/Ignore in the email context menu (or click the message subject header), then select either Follow Thread or Ignore Thread.
  • Also, you can click the names in the From or To headers to enable the following or ignoring of contacts.
Go To Thread

You can now also use "Go to thread" which means that you can view only the messages from that thread. This is useful for those that employ flat view.

Low Bandwidth Mode
Low Bandwidth Mode is a setting on mail accounts that makes Opera Mail use as little bandwidth as possible.

  • For IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol): Opera will only synchronise new messages and it will not fetch message attachments unless requested
  • For POP (Post Office Protocol): Opera will not fetch more than the first 100 lines of a message unless requested

Opera Scroll Marker
The new Opera Scroll Marker makes it easier to continue reading when you scroll through a Web page. At the end of the page it will indicate the previous position of the bottom of the screen so you can easily see where to continue reading.
Enable Opera Scroll Marker in the Preferences dialog box. Navigate to Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Show scroll marker (check box).

  • Check the box to enable Opera Scroll Marker
  • Leave the box unchecked (default) to keep it disabled
Using the opera:config Preferences Editor opera:config#UserPrefs|EnableScrollMarker, you can also set Opera Scroll Marker to show every time you scroll less than a full page down or up. The options in the drop-down menu are:
  • 0 — off
  • 1 — show when reaching the bottom or top of the page
  • 2 — always show when scrolling

Opera is the one browser where they are still innovating around how to make the core browsing better (instead of simply making things happen faster and then putting up graphs comparing themselves to other products).
It's almost as if they employ a group of enthusiast surfers then design the browser around their surfing habits and quirks.

Dare I say, Opera is the Apple of web browsers.

Only with slight changes :ohyeah:

* Remove the Arrogance

* Remove the need to demean competitors

* Remove hyper "And one more things"

* Add Features, Speed and Rock Solid Stability

And some more subtle changes before you can call Opera the Apple of Web Browsers.
Repect them for still pushing out new features and improvements OOB and maintaining their speed.

there aint no doubt opera is best (imo), but cannot deny its competitors as well
@asli well to be honest i m really facinated by what currently opera is offering, tweaking the menus, bars, inserting actions......... i didnt get wat u meant by speed? and afaik no browser is Rock Solid Stable :P

Opera is my favorite too...

Given my high-resolution display, I often need to resize the text (i.e., increase the font size by pressing the '+' key). I've found that only Opera manages to do it without messing up the layout of the page.

Uhh.. its ALSI :ohyeah: , not ASLI :hap5:
In my experience, i have found the overall feel of Opera to be snappier as compared to the other browsers!
And rock solid stability was obviously not literal, it is also comparitive!
Although i agree i get a bit carried away while talking about Opera :ohyeah: , a big fan of theirs!!

the amount of plug ins and tweaking that you can do to firefox is something that opera sorely lacks

I have yet to see a feature that a FF plugin added and Opera didn't already have it out of the box.
A real browser related feature i.e. I don't need by browser to be my word processor, media player, finance manager, etc., etc.

The tweaking possibilities in Opera are virtually endless; one can put anything anywhere.

Was trying to browse a site and I couldn't login because it kept giving me some cookie error (only with 9.60). Tried to look around preferences and found an option called 'Browser Identification'. It allows the browser to be masked as Firefox/IE. I set it to 'Mask as IE' and it worked.

@hotstuff i adore ff as well but incase u didnt know in opera u can literally build a menu with all the self created customised tweaks with the help of pre alloted actions
check these out ;)

Free Image Host
btw the run box in the opera executes external applications ;)

Which it makes up for by providing most of the useful features in the browser itself.
Really, the amount of tweaking and customization Opera offers, is impressive. Even supports JavaScripts natively, like firefox with greasemonkey.
