Whats the cost of an opteron S939 proccy.
Just asking for knowledge purpose.

Since it is a server processor will it work on the NF4 Chipset.

guys i have no knowledge about server processors and its mobo architecture.

I have been keeping an eye on discussions regarding Opteron 144 (1.8GHz) CPU for the
nForce4 939 platform. It seems that only a handful of them are available in only a few
select countries, like Germany?

A few have actually got their hands on this excellent CPU from AMD, having sucessfully
overclocked it to speeds like 2.8 and even 3.0GHz.

Opteron is basically a 940-pin server/workstation class processors, which in fact does
share quite a lot with the desktop A64 processors. Opterons generally need registered
memory modules (ECC/non-ECC) to work. It seems that socket-939 version of Opterons
don't need that, though I'm not sure.

As for the price, I've seen something lile $154 or so for the Opteron 144 model. If it's
really true, then we have a very good processor (are there more like 146, 148?) for
the socket-939 desktop platform. Priced in the same category as that of A64 3000+,
the Opteron 144 is a 1MB cache chip, which can safely be compared to the A64 San
Deigo CPUs.

Guys, gather more on this.

^ Yep, apparently the Socket 939 Opterons no longer need Registered memory to work with, so all the better ! These 939 based Opterons were mainly brought out to enable small businesses to put up servers for cheap without the hassle of registered memory, a socket 940 platform, etc. 146, 148 models do exist AFAIK.

Some say the Opterons being server procs have a better refined memory controller as well , people know that a good memory controller helps in OC'ing. Others debate that the memory controller is pretty much the same as whats on the San Diego A64. Nonetheless its still a good deal, availability as Yamaraj mentioned is the only issue right now!

have ordered opt 144 for $160 + $8 shipping. but delivery there (usa) is 1 ~2 weeks.
it is an oem version. lets hope i get it. (fingures crossed)

apparently it is a castrated fx 57 core on socket 939.

resourceful and enthusiast DFI'ers here would be well adviced to get this while the stock lasts.........

apparently they are popping up on sites which deal in oem stuff (mostly on pre-order). they have not hit the retail channel yet.

1mb cache cpu, stock 1.8GHZ, does about 3ghz on air for $170 = Rs. 7500. :icecream:

Sweet! Going on the DFI?

Hmm, looks very interesting. If it indeed is a * castrated fx 57 core on socket 939* then performance should be sweet...

Great going Deejay, hope you get that proccy and OC the hell out-of-it :D !

The Thing i really like about this Opteron is at 1.8Ghz it has 1MB L2 Cache.
All that is needed is just put it on the DFI and OC it to the max.

Deejay told us about his Opteron 144 at the TE meet.

Opteron really has a gr8 OC potential on Air.
Also one more thing which i like about it is no need for Registered Rams.

^ Deejay and me had managed to get our Venice's running at Stock at around 1.05V (ok, not exactly 1V and i dint try lower)

I guess the EPAW guys could go low as well :)

well i think i have posted it in the oc thread or maybe old venice thread.

i was able to run it at as low as 1.125v which was lowers that perticular ASUS A8N SLI dlx bios could offer. Didnt tried it on DFI though. Actiually i had taken it to 2.4-2.5Ghz undervolting.

i also did some undervolting on mine 754 setup and it surprized me a lot ..... here is the screenshot ....

didn't tried any lower than this ..... i was trying to see if i can run the processor without the fan on starice ...... i was running the fan @700 RPM and the temps were around 40*c ..... anyways didn't tried without fan ....

Will try when i get my DFI and AMD 3000+ 0517 Epaw from Funky

Ask funky to set up one more custom profile for you ! :ohyeah:

Yep! I remember those posts, but the problem was you had undervolted & overclocked . You never tried keeping it at stock and then undervolting it :)
