Orange Box + Steam = :(

hey guys..

am planning to get the Orange Box sometime this week.. i have a coupla major doubts though.

Is it absolutely necessary to authenticate over steam? i mean.. isnt there any way to bypass steam when a person has the legit version?

If it cannot be bypassed, can i authenticate on one system and go on to play it on another? basically, i use the net@work.. my playing rig doesnt have an internet connection. so can i like get the game authenticated over the internet at work nd copy over the gcf files or watever they use onto my home rig nd play??

would request someone to post the steps involved if this is possible

Steam authenticates the game every time you launch it. But there are ways to work around this. Check out this link.

But be careful while doing these things. some of these methods may not to the liking of STEAM and you run the risk of getting your account banned.

imho , if you game is first updated once , and registered over steam , i guess you can play the game in offline mode . i played portal completely offline after once updating it .

Yup, you can play the games offline except TF2, you need to first authenticate the game by steam and then make sure that in your games properties 'Offline mode' is enabled.

yeah that part i do know about.. but what im asking is.. can i authenticate on one system and use it on another...

after authenticating, ull need to copy some auth files to the comp you want to play on afaik

jus went through all of them.. only thing remotely related was switch ka post.. nd he jus says.. yes u need a net conn to activate.. nd see steampowered for more details...
