After reading through previous posts I ordered a ZTE AC2766 modem. I also visited the BSNL office for EVDO queries but they are mostly clueless. I'll try my luck with RUIM sim first. Other than purchasing the sim will I require any other assistance from BSNL like EVDO activation/password ? I'm located in M.P.

Get the RUIM and username and pwd and leave BSNL
Even if they don't give username and pwd , don't worry , USERNAME and PWD is always last 10 digits printed on RUIM
I got the sim & did a a top up of 20 for validity. I was unable to recharge 55 STV from paytm or freecharge so I did a top up of 100 which was successful. I'm able to connect to 1x but unable to connect in EVDO mode with various password combination including last 10 digits printed behind sim card. Is this because I'm using the RUIM sim ? I get EVDO signal but when I try to connect a message pops stating " Remote computer did not respond"

get the 55 EVDO UL 1 day from BSNL exchange . If the EVDO recharge doesn't go through then your RUIM is not EVDO compatible you will have to buy EVDO RUIM which costs 250 + taxes .
Username/Password is last 10 digits on RUIM for EVDO/1x .
EVDO finally got activated after 2-3 visits to BSNL. Speed is around 1.5 mpbs when I keep the laptop next to my room door.
I want to use EVDO with my desktop where speed fluctuates between 200-800 kbps. I think I'll have to buy an antenna for using it with desktop.
