Hi,
I am looking to pick up 4 x 2gb ddr2 800 from Memoryconfigurator.com. is there any problem ordering from them? how much time does it take to get delivered? whats the normal duty charged if delivered by DHL? Do they under invoice the goods if requested?

any comments or suggestions?

Vivek

Ask them to lower the value of goods when shipping and *not* to include the invoice in the shipment. Customs officials open most DHL packages and if they find an invoice, they're bound to charge duty on the original invoice. Assuming the goods are valued at 50 EUR, you could end up paying under 1k duty, hopefully nothing at all.

Yes, it does - but if goods are valued at EUR 50 they can't charge you more than 1k.

how many days does it take to get here and get delivered if shipping is via DHL, do we have to go to the customs or DHL takes care of it?

Had received Crucial 1gb * 2 from US (to Mumbai). No problems. Got it in 5 days flat(Express Shipping). Shipment was undervalued to less than 40$.
Think the only problem with undervaluing is the insurance(incase it gets misplaced/squished during shipping).

3-4 days, and DHL will take care of clearing etc... you just pay them if there is duty.

Sorry for barging in on this thread, but have a question related to this.

How is the duty thing done if the package is marked as gift? My friend might ship few things through USPS and Im not sure if it can be valued for less than $50.

Gift or no gift, duty can be levied - that's why even gift shipments need an accompanying customs invoice with contents and declared value.

ok, how much an a shipment of couple of 1900gts, a TT120 and 3 120mm fans be valued? Im not sure if any one would believe its worth ~$50

You have to make it believable, so go with $100 instead - still no guarantee though. Indian customs is becoming smarter, pretty soon they will start looking up prices on the web for assessing duty :P

guys, today i went to the customs office in Foreign Post office in Ballard Pier, Mumbai ..what i was told( though not officially) that gifts of value upto Rs. 10k are usually exempted(from duty) by them:hap2: ...but no online purchase is duty free...computer items are charged 35% :@...

one 80mm FAN and one +12v pump charged 3000/- by CS thru DHL

My suggestion, don't import any 'motor' kind of things.

I bought Ocz 700w PSU n memory cooler frm MC.....DHL.....reached my door in 3 days....900 bucks duty.

Razer copperhead + exactmat frm razerzone.com.....through DHL....2 days....NO DUTY.

Auzentech sound card....FedEx...3 days....NO DUTY.

Usually customs/duty wud b around 1000 bucks....for RAM,GFX...n stuff...MC.

CHEERS.

vivek what i would suggest that if you are goin to buy some corsair ram then buy it from prime at lammy as he is the direct dealer for corsair, and doesnt buy ddr2 rams from distri but gets it directly so he can give you a much more cheaper rate, if you want tell me i'll contact him and get a good rate as he knows me

DHL is fast. I received all my packages in 3 working days flat.

Every single time i was charged duty less than 1k. Just in comments section while ordering state that undervalue the shipment to 50 euro and not to include invoice and they will take care of it. You can additionally email them after ordering with your order no but its not needed.

Havent faced too many problems with memory configurator.
