need a bit of help:
i was on a 32 bit windows system....with h/w config.....Dual core proccy....
now changed to i5/z77 Mobo.....but the OS is not booting......i am currently seeding a lot of torrent from Ipt ......so do not wanna loose my account there.....kindly suggest how to:
1. boot with the old os in new config
or
2. back up my u torrent setting....with mapping to the files
plz. do not suggest redownloading torrent and finding files....and reseeding :P

You have your files downloaded via torrent in some other drive(not in C: I suppose). In that case you can reformat, install uTorrent again>change the settings in uTorrent to point to the download Folder where all your partially downloaded files are>Add the torrent files into uTorrent from ipTorrents again.(Or you can hook up the HDD into some other machine and save your .torrent files in one go.)

You can find all the .torrent file locations as well as the download folder settings in Preferences>Directories in uTorrent
uTorrent will initially check the files and resume download from the place it was left off.

  • Settings and Resume Data - Backup up the entire contents of folder %AppData%/utorrent
  • .Torrent Files - Stored in %AppData%/utorrent by default or your custom folder set through Options>>Pref>>Directories>>Store .Torrents in or Move .torrents for finished jobs to:(for seeding)
  • Torrent FAQS:-
    • How can I use µTorrent on a USB key or other removable drive?
Simply copy settings.dat (located in %AppData%\uTorrent ) to the same folder as uTorrent.exe, and you're done.
    • How can I share my torrents between user profiles / make µTorrent run self-contained in one directory?
Simply copy the entire contents of %AppData%\uTorrent into the same folder as utorrent.exe. Alternatively, create a blank file named settings.dat in the same folder as utorrent.exe, if you'd like to start out fresh (no settings/torrents). If using it in a multi-user environment, this folder should be accessible and writeable by all users so they can share settings and resume data.
copy the settings file mantain the folder locations

Copy the uTorrent folder in

C:/Users/[Your User name]/AppData/Roaming/

Also make note of where the downloaded files were.

Reinstall windows. Install uTorrent. Before starting uTorrent, copy and paste the above folder in same location. Ensure that the other paths are the same for the other files.

From what you write, I think you have the OS on a hard disk, and you are trying to boot that same hard disk with the OS on another hardware configuration? That's not going to work buddy, because the OS will need drivers for the various hardware components of the new hardware configuration. You will have to reinstall the OS, and install the drivers for the new hardware configuration in order for the OS to work properly, and for it to boot.

If you still have the old hardware with you, my suggestion would be to keep using the hard disk on that for a while, and get your torrents downloaded... and then once you are done, take backup of the contents of hard disk, format it, and then put it into the new hardware, and install OS once again.

Otherwise, if the old hardware is not with you, as others have suggested, take backup of the required torrents and its files, etc somewhere else. Also take backup of other important things on the hard drive, and then reinstall the OS on the hard disk again for the new hardware.

If the old PC which you had is also an INTEL based PC, then you can log in to safe mode, uninstall all the drivers. Restart, log in to normal mode. Then you can start installing the drivers of the new motherboard. You can even use some driver cleaners which are freely available in the web but its not mandatory.

Mostly this will work. But if the old one you had is an NVIDIA based or ATI based PC, this will not workout. I think this will not apply to windows 7 .

But you haven't stated the motherboard model no. of old PC and the O/s you used and which you are going to use. Be clear with facts buddy.

If the O/s is not getting to the boot screen then i think you should config the BIOS to SATA LEGACY mode because the O/s would have got installed in the LEGACY mode. Moreover WIN XP will not work with SATA AHCI mode. If yours is XP then you have to change BIOS to SATA LEGACY mode.
Report back..

OLD OS in Hard Disk wont boot into new Mother Board, cuz OS startup files will be stored in the motherboard ROM.

Still you can install a new OS in another drive and can back up the exiting files later.
