I recently got into this overburning thingie.. yeah I've tried it for a movie and it played fine on my dvd player as well..
But, I recently saw that 800 MB CDs were avble, went to the store and got one for Rs.15/- and was shocked to see that only 702 mb showed up,
Promptly went to cdfreaks.com and saw the problem, there was something abt. updating firmware for the CD writer , I did that but still no use!
I thought I was ripped! :bleh: Have u guyz had any problems using the 800mb cd?

I have used a Amkette 800MB CD.

I had no problems.

I wrote 800MB Data on it.

is it okay to overburn any damage caused to the hardware and whats the safe limit for a cd and a dvd

No damage is done to the hardware.
The exact limit depends on the disc. Generally, u can safely burn <40 MB extra on a CD and <250 MB on a DVD5.

You have to enable overburning in your burning app as well..

Yup no problems with Overburning discs!

Only thing is to set the Overburning amount in the Disc Burning software you are using.

For Nero Burning ROM 7 its under menu File -> Options -> Expert Features

Yep The CD didn't get recognized even when NERO had the overburning option ON at 90 mins.. Maybe the CD had probs in itself.. It wasn't an Amkette any which way.. I'll see if I can get an Amkette here :hap5:

The Eurovision disk leaflet says that the discs aren't recognised as 90 Min disks. They are IDed as 80minute disks but can be overburned to 90minutes.
