hi all,
i got my new XFX 4850 1GB RMA`ed today. The card is great. Played Fallout 3 on ULTRA HIGH SETTING with HD resolution.

I decided to overclock since i am a noob with this tuff clicked on auto tune. It took abt hrs ween to 695 but came back to 690.It showed at 98% load gpu was at 61 degree.
Then it started overclocking the memory. Default is 993Mhz, went to 1013 .. then i stopped it as it ,, as i had to go.

now the question is .. my card is a double slot i dont think heating is a problem . But shld i overclock my card?? If i overclock it to 680 and memory to 1000 .. how much performance gain will i get.

Can OC caouse any problem . shld i stick to stock or go and OC it ??

which case are you using??

if it has good airflow in it then it's not a problem to overclock.

the key to a successful overclock is the temperature.

Keep it as low as possible & your card would be fine.

you can easily take it to 690 / 1130.. using the latest ati drivers

mine even passed the 700/1130 OC .. did not try goin further as overdrive can go max only till 700

performance gain is certainly there sometimes even upto 10 fps...

but offlate ive noticed ...tht i get artifacts in Shift at 690 ...so i keep my clock to 650 / 1000 only for shift..

rest all games work better at 690..

ive got a dual slot cooler too ...idles at 37-39

Overclocking depends a lot on the chip. So, it varies from card to card.
Mine, even being a single slot card overclocks to 700/2240 and no artifacts in any game. And sometimes, even a dual slot card doesn't overclock well.

Just make sure that the overclocked settings u set runs 3D Mark for 2 hours and u are all set.
Performance increase would be high even at HD resolutions. So, go ahead and do it. Dnt worry about temps as long as they don't cross 100 which is very unlikely since my single slot never crosses 75-80. :P

SO i have a crapppy case .. i mean a really really crappy case. I have installed 2 90mm fans right above GPU i.e b.w GPU AND CPU. Also i have a 90mm fan Right at the bottom of the case.

Have been playing NFS shift for like 1 hr .. temps are still 50 at 57 % activity.

Do u guyz recommend me to overclock. If yes then by how much.

Plz not that this card was bought from USA thus is not givin me warranmty in india.

kindly suggest wt 2 do ?

If its not under warranty, don't overclock unless u really need it which would not be the case for the current breed of games.
So, dnt overclock. :cool2:

As u said man .. i had it clocked to 650 and 1008 . Temps never even touched up even 49. But as u say man. I wasnt even wanted to overclock. Just wanted to try once. He guyz will my CPU q6600 bottleneck my GPU??

If you are unsure of settings, use AMD’s overdrive utility which has an option to auto adjust the overclock level. Also, this utility gives you an option to overclock live without rebooting so, the results are immediate and you can know if the system becomes unstable immediately.
