Overclocking E7200

Now, Before everyone starts cursing "Google It" , let me just say that I have , and it has left me more confusing than ever.

My Rig :

C2D E7200

MSI 5850 Dual Frzr II

Cooler Master 600W Silent Pro M

4 x 1GB Corsair XMS 2 DDR2 Ram

Abit IP 35E

I want to over-clock my processor at stock cooling which i feel is bottlenecking the card a bit. I just want to push it up to 2.8 ~ 3 Ghz, which I have heard is very simple.

So basically can someone link me to a web page which explains it for total noobs ? I mean i understand most of it, but the lose track when the start talking about altering Memory Timings and shit :(

Its simple enough really, C2D Cpu's being more easier to tweak.

When booting up, press Del to enter into the BIOS and up the Front Side Bus speed or FSB for short it is like this:

Your processor speed is calculated by the FSBxMultiplier:

Your multiplier will/should be locked.

So that leaves only FSB overclocking.

Increase the FSB in increments of 10Mhz and try booting into windows and run stress tests. (Orthos, Prime95 will do, Google them :P)

This should be enough to get you to a comfortable 2.8Ghz.

To get 2800Mhz you need:

2800/9= 311Mhz roughly

If you are not able to boot safely into windows and no boot screen you might have to reset the CMOS. In which case it invloves removing a small battery from the mobo and putting it back in after atleast 10 secs have passed.

The location of the CMOS on your mobo is near the SouthBridge heatsink, behind the black PCI slots.

If you are not able to boot into windows but are getting the boot screen, go into the bios and increase the CPU voltage by a small increment.

Sometimes even a 0.001V can make a difference.

I have heard that Abit IP 35E has lousy vDroop which basically means the voltage displayed isn't whats actually going into the CPU.

And 1 more thing, the multiplier is so because your computer is idling.

Fire up some CPU-intensive like a benchmark mentioned above and you should see your full speed.

No need to fiddle with Memory timings for now. :D

Hope that helped.

Any doubts?

But if i toggle the FSB for the CPU doesnt the memory clock also gets changed automatically. i was reading this 1:1 ratio thing you have to set.
