Ok I done everthin I can but I cant get it to boot at anything over 1.9ghz :(
It did 2.2 at first during testing. Now anything more than 210 FSB wont boot.
Set the CPU vol to 1.5 which increased ram vol to 2.7. I Even reduced the ram speed to 266mhz.
What I am I doing wrong? :help2:
This is first overclock in this platform

Here my system specs

3000 939 (original heatsink modded 120mm Fan)
K8N NEO 2
512x2 Micron Value ram
160gig segate cuda
BFG 6800
550W TP

I suddenly realise that I am not getting that much support as I used to. :boxed:

first see how high your ram can go. reduce your cpu multiplier to 7

set the htt multiplier to 4x or 3x . make sure your hypertransport frequency doesnt go over 1000mhz. your htt * htt multiplier gives you that. eg 250mhz ht * 4 = 1000mhz.

set the timings to 3-4-4-8. set the voltage to 2.8v

now increase the htt from 200Mhz by increments of 3mhz till it gets unstable.

once you know the frequency that you can oc your ram till you can start ocing your cpu

set vcore to 1.6. or 1.55 and htt to 200mhz and increase again by 3mhz till it gets unstable.

once you know the max frequencies for cpu and ram you can set the multiplier to something appropriate.

say ram maxes out at 250 mhz and cpu at 2520mhz , you can use a setting of 250*10 where your ram runs at 250mhz and cpu @ 2500mhz .

dont credit me for the above post. read it at hardware zone or somewhere and havent forgotten it since :D

also take overclocking a bit slow.. sometimes you may need to burn in the board before you can harness its potential

Is your PCI/AGP lock set? I dunno abt MSI but other NF3/NF4 boards reqd u to set the AGP frequency to 67.

Hey Bottle,
if he is trying on CPU overclocking then he might as well use divider and keep teh RAM relaxed.
He MUST reach 2.4-2.5 GHz EASILY,isnt it?

Also i have heard that even if the A8V Deluxe is prior to Rev. 2.0 then a BIOS update fixes this issue,am i right?

Since i have been used to OC'ing with the local generic crap when it comes to RAM.So i HAVE to use divider.

@ Stalker,
Relax your RAM.
Also reduce the HTT Multiplier to say 4 or 3.
This should help.
Disable Cool 'n' Quiet.
No need to up Vcore.
Leave the RAM as it is [All AUTO settings for Dram]
This should keep your RAm realxed.
This way you can reach a better OC.
After finding out the Max OC for the CPU, you can try Max OC possible with RAM 1:1

He has used the divider and brought RAM speeds down to 266Mhz. So RAM speeds are relaxed :)
Still dunno why he's not going any further.

i used to have the same problem with my barton 2500xp on a nforce2, default clock was 1833, whenever i went to 2000mhz it rebooted at the windows xp load screen, never figured out the problem. heh

btw how high would the 2800 64bit go for me on the k8vx, running on 1980mhz atm.

a8v deluxe boards prior to rev 2.0 (1.02etc) boards had locks only on one beta bios. think its the 1.5 or something.

Ok first off I didnt reduce HTT speed. I left at 5x thats one reason why I couldnt overclock.
I reduced it to 4x and it really does overclock pretty well. Managed 240 fsb. I need to push it furthur ;)

And did this on 1.25V :ohyeah:

I really didnt know that SATA 1 & 2 dont work when you overclock. At 240fsb I used to get BSOD's. Changed to Sata 3 & 4 will try overclocking some more. Thanks again for link bottle. ;)

no problem, if you are in the mood for it take of the NB heatsink and reapply the thermal paste as well

dont mean to sound obvious but also reduce the htt multiplier to 3x if you go over 250

i thought id posted a pic somewhere, it wasnt a big deal. heard its the older boards where we had to really bend a cap all the way till its nearly flat against the board. for me i had to bend it just a bit

Chaos
I set it 67mhz just to be on the safe side ;) dont really know if its needed
bottle
lol! And you seem ok with that? Just thinking of bending a cap makes me feel sick.. I dont have the guts to do that :P
Dont you void the warranty by doing this? Did you get the Oem version of the board?

P.S[/SIZE=1]
I am going to try what you suggested on the ram timings ;)

nothing like a little risk to spice things up ;)

Nice looking PC there Bottle.
Neat Cable management.

I guess a good overclocking board isnt in my fate.
You got some good results with that MSI board.Good for you.

@ Stalker,
Congrats dude, for achieving some decent overclocking.

:cool2:
That one clean PC! :hap2: I wish mine looked like this :(
My caby is not big enough.
Nice job on fixing the heatsink :)
You fan looks a lot bigger than mine. :S I will try get a pic of mine.

p.s
Managed 250 on the ram with 3-4-4-10 (your timings :P). At this speed SuperPi wont run. Gives an error. This was with 2.8V
Anything more and windows will not boot.
Thanks Darky :)

Hey stalker, just saw your system specs,
Dude, when did you get the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum ?

You had A8V Deluxe i guess,am i right ?
