well after 5-6months of use i have decided tht i might overclock my cpu but im not too much of a overclocker...

i know the basics and my processor is supposed to be made by amd already unlocked.

but when i chk in my bios all the options for increasing multiplier fsb are grayed out. :S :S :S

isnt the fx-60 an unlocked processor?

need some help.

PS. my motherboard model is A8N32-SLI DELUXE (nforce4)
Bios brand: American Megatrends Inc., Version 1103, Date 01/02/06
Currently my bus speed is 201mhz and multiplier is x13. (2.61ghz)
my cpu-core temp: 63C

can u suggest some air cooling? cuz i dont think i can get a really good water cooling on my budget... (5k)

yes using stock cooling.

and this is the cpuz data i got:

^^ The option to change the Multi might be in the OC menu or maybe after enabling manual OC it might not remain gray.Try it out.

And as for a better cooler, you wont be able to find a decent one locally, you'll have to import one. The best ones currently are either Thermalright Ultra 120/Tuniq Tower 120/Scythe Infinity

Darklord, i pretty much looked at all the settings and none let me overclock it by multiplier.... and all over the internet is says tht i can change my multiplier :S

Hunt3r i think there was a serious dust issue in the afternoon or sumthin.. cuz after my regular monthly cpu cleaning the idle temps came down to 40C

and i have overclocked my cpu by increasing the bus speed and this is the result... 2807mhz with a temp of 48C! (idle of course :P) during max load temps hit up to 65C.

pls gimme some solution for tht multiplier issue... i dont think i can push the bus speed higher without loosing my stability.

PS. can u suggest me some tests to insure 100% stability after overclock?

^^ u can try prime for checking the stability. run it on both cores.

your temp is high so wouldnt recommend running it at that.

The multiplier control is generally there in CPU configuration on Asus boards. Can't you scroll down that screen? Also did you try flashing to the latest bios? I've never used that particular Asus board as I was a DFI guy on AMD so really can't be certain. However you better get aftermarket cooling with temperatures like that before you even think of overclocking :P.

^^ Frankly speaaking i would suggest reinstalling the stock cooler.Donno why but those temps just dont seem right....

but wont i need to replace the thermal paste aswell? becuz i dont have any thermal paste at home now.. or is it okay if i replace it without any thermal paste?

EDIT: replaced the stock cooler and temp is still hanging around tht 45-50C in heavy load it still goes to 65C.

but i chked some sites and tht temp rang is a little high but its okay.. normally temp shud be idle at 40-45C and heavy load 55-60C. mine is jus 5C off.

Chaos, i have flashed my bios to the new august 2006 version and still no change :(

You HAVE to apply thermal paste before reinstalling the HSF.WHy not get AS5 from somewhere ?

I guess Prime ABGB in Mumbai has it.

u need to get a better cooler even for running the proccy at stock...the temps are way too high...Thermaright 120 should do the job

AMD is not stupid enough to bundle a crappy cooler along with such a hihg end CPU.The cooler bundled with FX is decent enough, the problem is something different.
Please dont give a solution that has got nothing to do with the problem. ;)

Although its true that for doing GOOD OC you shud think of a better cooler, but at stock, the Original cooler is good enough.;)

oks the multiplier prob is solved... it was in the VID/sumthin settings... i had to change it to manual then i cud change the multiplier :P

i have it running at 2.89ghz rite now... but its still hot. (48-50C idle) i guess better cooling is a must. but Darklord can u tell me wher i can buy tht thermalrights ultra 120 along with the arctic silver5?

AS5 should be available with Prime ABGB, Lamington Road,Mumbai.

For Thermalright Ultra 120, you cant get it here. You will need to order it from Sidewinder Computers - Hardware Cooling Products & Rounded Cables

They do ship to India. :)

but i have seen tht the thermalrights ultra 120 is just a heatsink... no fan with it,

so wht fan shud i take with it to insure good cooling?
