Well guys,I recently purchased a Phenom II X2 550 BE and a Biostar TA790GX 128M
Now gonna try unlocking the cores,if possible
Can anyone guide me through the exact procedure ?
I know we need to enable the ACC from BIOS but half knowledge can be dangerous :P

just try setting it to auto in bios and try booting. Also try some benchs to ensure stability.

btw, which batch is the proccy?

Congrats dude even i have got a 550BE with Bisotart TA790GXB A2+ but waiting for the monitor from DELL :(. Even i would like to know the process for unlocking :P

Thanks but if something goes wrong what do i do to set it back to normal
Remove CMOS battery ?
Can't remember the batch no. :(

No need to remove the cmos battery...just clear cmos. it will be a set of 3 pins with a small plastic cap which will cover two out of them. Check your user guide, it will have the placement of the same.

hmm,ok
I'll try it out :)

Hey, Let me know are you able to unlock other two cores.

I am planning to but same combo next month :)

Best of luck for unlocking.

Hard luck i guess

No sucess on unlocking,my system hangs on startup

Doesn't even reach the BIOS :P

btw, does it has something to do with the RAM,i mean i only got a 1GB atm

will be getting another 2 GB tommorow

problem is mainly with CPU...actually its not a problem but more like bad luck.

Only specific batches will unlock, and even among unlockable batch there are some % of failures.

The TA790GX 128 is a definite unlock board. Its the processor batch that matters more.

Yash, what stepping of the X2 550 ?

You can unlock your CPu just flash your Biostar mobo with old Bios version. New bios dont work with ACC auto. Same happened to me.

just flash old bios and it will unlock all cores But i am sure how much you can overclock then.

I can go up to 4.3Ghz with my PII 720 unlocked under water. and stable on 3.7 Ghz

Not that every mobo will unlock. Mine didn't too. :(

unlocking has nothing to do with the mobo. only thing needed in the mobo is the acc feature. rest everything depends on the stepping / batch of the cpu.

This month's "Digit" has an article on someone trying their hand at overclocking the Phenom II all the way upto 6GHz using Liquid Nitrogen

^^Lol :P He already posted that in Te as well :P

Its pretty hard to do Ln2 OC as its costly and time consuming. and those who don't have experience will end up freezing the system :bleh:

BTW Congrats Amey saar ;)

Not to mention the risk of losing a few body parts if you're not careful. xD
Everytime i watch any of those OC tournament videos, they're handling it so casually, at times with no to very little protective gear. Instead of looking at the hardware/results all im thinking is "man these guys must have b**** of steel!"

How do you get hold of LN2? I heard once that you can get it real cheap at IISc Bangalore if you're a student? Is there any other way you can lay your hands on it?
