Hi all,

I built a new computer about 2 months ago, and I bought the ECS RD480-A939 MB. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience overclocking with this motherboard or had a link or anything, it seems very very "unsupported" in my research. I can't find anything online detailing overclocking with it.

So far, I've achieved a 15% OC (2.3Ghz from 2Ghz) and I have a Big Typhoon with Arctic Silver Ceramique, so I KNOW i can do better than that.

I guess my main question is, am I getting the most OC potential this board has to offer?

Thanks for any help

The ATi RD480 was a bit of a fussy chipset IMO. So dont be surprised if it acts up. People with even the DFI board based off this chipset tend to have issues.

Now i'm not aware of your overclocking expertise, so dont mind if some of these sound a little n00bish. A couple of pointers:

- Reduce the HTT multiplier

- Increase Vcore voltage (have you done so already?)

- Have you tested your RAM's max potential, i.e. are you sure your RAM isnt the bottleneck? (If so use dividers to eliminate the RAM for now)

- Rosewill PSU's are pretty generic stuff, I wouldnt trust those things to support a powerful GPU like the X1900XTX as well as handle an overclock. Get something more reliable.

hey eddy,

thanks for the reply, sorry for posting in wrong forum.

Well I know enough about overclocking to understand what you're talking about. The thing is, with this bios, the names for everything are really wierd, is there any way to screenshot the bios screen? Otherwise I'll just take some pics and upload them, to show you what I'm talking about. i think it uses non-standard naming conventions.

I'll edit this post in about 10 mins...

EDIT:

ok, I took some pictures of my bios config screens for ya. I normally wouldn't have a problem with this kind of thing, it's just that I can't find ANY info on this mobo at all.

"PC Health" - I just took this for the hell of it.

First of all turn that cool n quiet thing off ...

then start incrementing the CPU clock thing ...which seems like the FSB .. coz the multiplier is called Hammer Fid control by the looks of it at least ... keep spread spectrum disabled...and i still havent figured out for myself what to adjust to increase Vcore...but i THINK its the last option CPU vcore adjustment :P just increment everything a bit and boot and chk in windows with CPUz ... then u will know what has changed and what hasnt :P

hehe :P go search for ur motherboard manual :bleh: maybe theyve explained things better there :D

And watch ur 12v readings..they seem pretty low at start up at 11.77

really, what could i do to increase that?

BTW, i figured out how to overclock my proc all the way up to 2.6 stable, all i had to do was increase vcore and fsb... but it downclocked my ram so slow, that it was actually worse for games. so now I am at 2.3 and it's awesome.
