Graphic Cards Overkill??!!

Umm are we moving from desktop entertainment to render farms. Kingkrool has posted long time back an article about a system using around 30 9800 pro chips...

Total Overkill.

4 x 7800 GTX in SLi
I was like imagining the perf of 2 x 7800GTX but 4 is totally insane.

Mind blowing stuff.

but where are the PCI & PCI-E x1 slots for addon cards ;)

Why does the article suggest a "gaming system powered by 2x7800gtx and 2x7800gt"
Is it a begining of a new SLI 2 technology ?

Yea, conbining Two differnet GPU's base on the same Core. :S. That doesnt seem such like SLI2 :P.

It would be quite an achievement for nVidia if they manage to couple 2 different cards even on same core, like 7800gtx and 7800gt in SLI, bcoz they have different rendering speeds in different games, due to different number of pipes in them.
For example, 3dmark greatly benifit by increase in number of pipes while games don't get benifit so much.So to be able to synchronize the rendering speed of the two cards, either they have to make application specific SLI or downgrade the 7800gtx to 7800gt, by disabling four of its 4 pipes, to match the speed of two.
It would take quite lot of redesigning of the current SLI technolgy, to achieve this and it would be worthy enough to call it SLI2 :P
