Need a reliable converter to convert PageMaker 7 files to PDF without any issue. The PageMaker files are basically newspapers draft with tons of texts and images.
Softwares which I know of (via mostly a tdf thread):
pdf995: link no longer works. file unavailable.
primopdf: can convert only texts.
novapdf: till trying. nope doesn't work.
others: file is not available or do not work.
can even go for paid softwares if it works perfectly.
thanks.

Edit: is Adobe Acrobat Pro the only option?
Edit 2: Nope. Foxit reader works. But you may need to play around with the settings especially under the "Set-up" option.

Better to go with acrobat pro, you can try the trial version before purchasing
I tried to install the trial version but it would constantly have errors at 50% of download. Every time. I ended up sending them my contact details.
Also I want to mention that their monthly subscription fee of 1000rs is too high for us at the moment. Would've been alright if it was 5-6k a year. I guess monthly subscription is for controlling piracy.

After some hours of tinkering around with the settings I was able to do it using the already installed Foxit pdf reader.
Foxit Software.
Confirming that this worked. I did gave this a try in the beginning (even before i created this thread) but it couldn't manage the page layout properly. It needed some settings changed to make it work. The hours spent was totally worth it. :D
Problem has been solved. Appreciate all the replies.

Yes I'm aware of that. But apparently only the paid 11 Pro version and above could do what I needed. Already tried and also contacted adobe regarding this. I'm just glad that I can do it using a Freeware. Nova people also wanted me to give the trial version a try and if it worked buy the paid. It didn't. While some existing softwares could "convert" the files they couldn't do it properly. Some were able to convert only the texts. In the process the whole layout got messed up. But everything on the pages needed to be as they were. Cheers to foxit even though I couldn't do much in the beginning. hehe
My only regret was I couldn't do it soon enough. My boss hired a "professional" who spent a good amount of time on the issue and while he was able to do less than what I had done it (the convert part) my boss didn't notice the layout. He apparently even got paid for it. I came to know of it only later. And I myself was able to finally found the solution to the problem. :/

Update: it won't print from the PDF properly, only the top half of the page gets printed, the bottom area does not. So I have to do it from the original Pagemaker file. Any one know why?

Can't. The printer just doesn't print the other half. Only the upper half of the pages come out. Size is A3 btw.

why dont you try Microsoft Windows inbuilt print to pdf option? It has settings for printing A3 file in printer preferences.
The issue has been resolved but to answer your question, its not only about the printer or paper size but also the pagemaker page settings and page layout.

but also the pagemaker page settings and page layout.
but you were talking about PDF.

the very purpose of the PDF is to make sure that the page (font, size, color, margins etc) look or print the same irrespective of the hardware used.

so, you goofed-up one step before making PDF? :p
