Hey checkout this temperature chart - Temperatures
4850 runs too hot.

Nope my MSI HD 4850 idles in the 20's even in summer never goes above 50c.

I have seen many cases of this PSU failing. Not just on this forum, but many other forums. The CM Extreme series are famous for causing issues similar to this, cause they cannot provide clean constant power.

Yeah , does absence of Active PFC has something to do with it ???

I blame your custom made cable for what happened.

Try for an RMA, If they refuse then you can replace that component. It will not be hard to do so.

reviews of cm say it is around 470w real life output which is enough to pull off normal systems. nothing hardcore, so I think your psu is ok.

Its efficiency is around 70% ... so how can it provide 470W ??

efficiency is not calculated that way....it may provide max power upto 470W if your components consumes that much power but it will suck too much power from the wall socket/mains say 100W more....so if it is providing 300W than it is actually taking 400-450W from your wall socket.....the rest is dissipated as heat while converting from ac to dc

i just want to tell u one thing don't wast your money on a 450 or 500w supply go to a higher watteg supply i got a coolermaster realpower 750w and have to say its a nice one

that PSUs crap, try to remove the black marks and RMA. if you buy a PSU make its a lfetime investment so you don't have to buy another just cause it crapped out. buy antec, corsair, seasonic or buy high end cooler master.
