LifeDrive lets users synchronize large file folders. Going where no handheld has gone before, palmOne unveiled last week the LifeDrive Mobile Manager, the first mainstream PDA to include a 1-inch, 4GB hard drive.

The device measures 4.7 inches by 2.8 inches by 0.76 inches deep and weighs 6.8 ounces. The other unique feature of the LifeDrive is its ability to synchronize entire directories of data, pictures, and video from desktop to device and back.

With connectivity through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or a USB 2.0 cable, and with its $499 price tag, the device is expected to appeal to both business and consumer users, say some industry analysts.

The 320 x 480 pixel display is similar to Palm’s Tungsten T5, but Life-Drive’s rectangular landscape mode display offer a better aspect ratio for reading e-mail and viewing pictures and video.

Two features notably absent from the device are a keyboard and cellular capability.

But for wide-area connectivity, users could use a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone with the LifeDrive.
