Pandit Ravi Shankar passed away in San Diego (US) at a hospital on Tuesday evening.

[h=1]Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar passes away in San Diego[/h]NEW DELHI: Pandit Ravi Shankar, the most known contemporary Indian musician, passed away in San Diego city of United States on Tuesday evening.

The sitar maestro, aged 92, had been under treatment for last one week. He was hospitalised last Thursday after he complained of breathing difficulties.

For nearly three decades, ever since his first tour of the United States and Europe in the 1956-57 season, Ravi Shankar has served as India's unofficial ambassador for music.

The music doyen was awarded India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna in 1999. He also received three Grammy Awards and was competing against his daughter Anoushka Shankar, also a sitar player, for another Grammy in 2013.

We have indeed lost another maestro and a true legend in the world of music. RIP sir. :(
 
Sad indeed. May he rest in peace.

Does anybody else feel that a lot more people are dying this year as compared to previous years?
Or maybe its just confirmation bias because of all the 2012 stories.

Not entirely true - 2011 saw the passing away of Dev Anand, Jagjit Singh, MF Hussain, Pt Bhimsen Joshi .... besides Steve Jobs, Osama Bin Laden, Liz Taylor, Ghaddafi ..... besides who knowz Dec 21, 2012 has yet to come - WHEN ALL SHALL PASS :D
